The thing about LiuShen is that even if Luo Binghe wasn’t around, I honestly believe neither Liu Qingge nor Shen Qingqiu would act on their feelings unless forced by outside circumstances. Jury’s out on if they’re even aware of their feelings.

Like, Shen Qingqiu is obviously attracted to Liu Qingge and cares about him deeply in canon but he’s got his whole…thing. Where he had to be basically forced into a relationship with the love of his life because he would never have gotten there on his own. So obviously if we’re in an AU where Luo Binghe isn’t trying to sheepdog herd Shen Qingqiu away from Liu Qingge, Shen Qingqiu still isn’t going to figure anything out on his own.

And then there’s Liu Qingge, who you would think is fully aware of his feelings and action-oriented enough to bluntly act on them without beating around the bush. Except based on the succubus extra, I’m not convinced that he actually knows he’s in love? At least not consciously? Liu Qingge definitely isn’t the type to take time to introspect about his emotions on a regular basis…or ever…and he starts out the whole fortune telling bit extremely blasé. Like he really doesn’t think it has anything to do with him. It’s only when it starts being plausibly about him that he starts getting openly invested. And then he gets pissed when Madam Meiyin says the bit about Shen Qingqiu’s fated one being deeply in love with him, which could be him deflecting, but could also be read as a “wait what?” moment that’s immediately shut down by Madam Meiyin telling him he’s not Shen Qingqiu’s fated person at all.

So in theory Liu Qingge could look back on that and realize that oh, he was happy to be Shen Qingqiu’s soulmate, he is deeply in love with him, etc etc. But. Is Liu Qingge really going to be sitting around analyzing his emotions. Is he really going to do more than going huh that was weird and felt bad oh well guess we’ll never know what that was about, time to go back to chasing after Shen Qingqiu with the thinnest excuses possible and never considering what that means.

Anyway all that to say that we should really be putting LiuShen into more Situations together. For their emotional health.

Liushen post immortal alliance conference, but Liu Qingge decides to be proactive in making Shen Qingqiu happy again and starts kidnapping street children to give Shen Yuan a new one. None of them actually fix his depression so Liu Qingge just keeps finding new kids. Shen Yuan eventually gets fed up with it and yells at Liu Qingge to either help him raise their babies or take them all for himself. Liu Qingge is determined to stay together for the kids (they aren’t married or even dating)

Liushen where Shen Yuan decides that the best move he can make tactically to ensure his survival is to marry into the Liu family. Liu Mingyan was obviously the best wife and she cared deeply for her family, so by becoming a part of it Shen Yuan would by extension be under Luo Binghe’s umbrella of protection. HOWEVER, it would be stupid to pursue any of Liu Mingyan’s lady relatives even if they aren’t mentioned as future wives, since any reasonable woman in this universe could never truly love her husband after she had seen Luo Binghe, leaving Liu Qingge as Shen Yuan’s most viable option. Obviously Liu Qingge isn’t gay, but he is very honorable— honorable enough for Shen Yuan to use that against him. His solution? Baby trap Liu Qingge, become a pillar of the Liu household, and thus be protected from Qiu Haitang’s future accusations by a noble family, and not get killed by Luo Binghe. It’s flawless.

Liu Qingge doing something nice for Shen Yuan, who sarcastically jokes that “One would almost think Liu-shidi cares”. However, Liu Qingge doesn’t get that he’s being sarcastic and gets very upset that Shen Yuan didn’t know he cared, and starts desperately giving him gifts and doing things for him and spending time with him to prove that Liu Qingge cares really very much actually.
