    it’s hard to believe just how much his life has changed in the past year. there’d been a period of time when everyone, including killian himself, had thought that he would never recover from having his heart broken. he’d coped with it in all the worst ways, and yet somehow his friends hadn’t given up on him despite his efforts to make it happen. he’d been so convinced that once he and francis were over, they would all turn their backs, but that hadn’t happened. he’d gotten himself sober, fallen in love with damien, and it was all smooth sailing from there.

     it took killian a long time to realize that he was worthy of having a good life. “i’m happy,” the words are simple, and for the first time in a long time, he actually believes them. tonight, he’ll go home to the man he loves and cuddle his cats, and for now, that’s enough. “i hope you find what you’re looking for, frankie. you deserve to be happy too.”

     “i am? i had no idea.” she looks over at him with a grin, the one that says she knows exactly how important she is to him. francis can fool a lot of people, but she’s better at reading him than most. the weight of his palm feels heavy against her hand, and she gives it a small squeeze in silent communication. malia tries not to think too much about how terrible her life was during the years he was gone, but in moments like this when it’s just the two of them in their own little world, it’s hard not to.

     she came so close to losing him forever, and it was sheer luck that they found each other again -- or was it divine intervention? malia no longer knows what to believe. the only thing that really matters is that they’re together again, and no force in heaven or hell could tear them apart now.

     “you’re my favourite person in the world.”
