Hey ! Just so you know, I am your number one fan. I don't really know about your other creations but I have watched your One Piece AMVs even before I watched the anime itself... And even though my work is not even near as good as yours, you made me want to make One Piece AMVs and I thank you for this ^^ I wanted to know, how long does it take to make an AMV ? Like the "Do you remember" one ? It's one of my favorites ^^
Aww thank you! I like to think that no one is "better" or "worse" at making amvs than anyone else, just more or less experienced. I mean, I've been making amvs for 15 years! I started out by using floppy disks to download gifs at the library (I didn't have internet at the time, and of course I could only ever fit a handful onto a disk. Plus I was like 12 so I was dumb and broke and floppy disk smuggling was all I could afford lol), then take them home and edit them to music on windows movie maker with my dad's music. So lost to the winds of time is a really pixelly badly synced repetitive mess of an Inuyasha "amv" set to "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. I got to where I am by just making lots of amvs and improving through experience, so every video you make is important!
To be honest how long an amv takes for me tends to be completely random haha. For example, my "Do you Remember?" amv took me roughly 9 months to finish. My "In the Name of Love" amv, however, only took one day to make! My "Tongues" amv probably holds the record for taking the longest to make since it took me like... I think it legit took me years to finish. My "Believer" amv only took a week or two. And you can probably guess that the rest of my amvs have equally random finishing times.
I think it usually depends on a few factors:
How easy the song is to edit to. The "Name of Love" song was really fun and easy to edit to, whereas the "Tongues" song was a bitch to edit to.
How well I can translate the idea in my head to the video. It took me quite a while to get a look that I liked for "Do you Remember" because I wanted a certain atmosphere. I often like to experiment with my amvs, especially if I want to try and create a certain look or feeling to match the music, and this will almost always take a while to get right.
How much I'm in the mood for making amvs, and/or how open my schedule is. Sometimes I just don't have any songs I want to edit to or I'm too lazy/tired/busy/etc. Also sometimes even if I have a song I want to edit to I still can't edit to it for some reason. Some just don't click with me unfortunately.
How well scenes I want to use work when actually using them. Too short? Too long? Don't look quite how I want them to? And so on. Sometimes if I really want to use a scene but it doesn't fit I'll either shorten it if it's too long by cutting out extra frames that aren't needed(if speeding it up looks too weird), or make it longer if it's too short by just using Photoshop to give it extra frames lol. In my "Doubt" amv there was a clip with Luffy that was a little too short, so I just used Photoshop to add extra frames of his sash blowing in the wind lmao. If something like that happens it definitely takes longer due to me being anal about small stuff.
I hope that answers your question! If you have anything else you'd like to ask please feel free!
