“ her playdate fell through at the last minute. i hope you don’t mind. ” a lie. she had planned around nilsa’s schedule on purpose. nilsa is an emotional shield. the table is laid out with a good spread. the coffee smells inviting, but she’ll reach for the calming tea sachets instead and try for a sunny smile. this is fine, it will be like a doctor’s appointment, uncomfortable for awhile, but necessary and then it would be over until the next time. hands come up “ happy belated birthday ! ” [ @fannicroy ]
