louis xiii reportedly desired to leave governance to his then-minor son the future louis xiv, and retire to a monastery or possibly to versailles and devote himself to god (and louise de la fayette) there (see A. Lloyd Moote - Louis the Just). nothing came of this, since he passed away in 1643, leaving the regency over the kindom and his son to anne of austria. but if he were to live just 8 more years, he could've become a monk just the way he wanted to. cardinal richelieu was elected abbot general of the order of prémontré in 1636, though never confirmed by the pope in this position. he is nevertheless traditionally listed in the chronology.
