Deega’s reply to anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
Communication is the best way with your parents, you need to clearly communicate your thoughts with someone you trust (A parent or a Cousin) who could help you out in getting through with your needs.
Have a clear understanding of why they are doing so, and accordingly you would know how to tell them that you need some space.
If they are overprotective, try not to mention “Freedom”, instead talk about “Trust” in you as a person, and your decisions. Find a way to bring them closer to your life, let them know your friends, make them confident about them...and step by step they could trust your actions and give you what you need.

“(i am writing in english because it’s way easier to speak in a non-native language than it is in a native one, because you feel less restricted, less at home, and with more freedom accessible).
and i am asking you, because you seem strangely understanding of teenagers in ways (i think) no one is.
let me start by saying that i am not as “imprisoned” as a lot of teenagers, and this is not to complain about my parents or my lifestyle or to complain at all. it’s just me simply letting out what i feel instead of punching a wall.
it always angers me how little trust my parents actually put in me. if i’m writing something, they’ll demand to know what it is. they’ll ask for my phone password and look through everything. they’ll let me know i’m watched. and they try to minimize my relations with the male population as much as they could.
i realize i’m not (well, not always) actually hiding something, but i get defensive, because i don’t think it’s ever okay for a fifteen year old not to have at least some space, or something to let out my anger into.
of course, yes, some people have it far worse, but it’s not a competition. it’s not about who has it worse, it’s not about how much this trust actually is. it’s about the fact that i don’t feel trusted.
and i really do not want to hide anything, or go behind their back, but it’s hard.
and that’s why i’m asking you for advice.
because sometimes it’s hard convincing them that going out with some friends is not going to make me end up with a guy, and it’s not going to make me less “mo7tarama”, and that “kalam el nas” is not really what matters.
thank you for reading all of this, a n o n y m o u s.”
