A Bold Escape
As the door shut behind Uzune, Shuu knew he was near the end of the line. The Hawks were furious that he had failed in the revival of Operation Hatoful, not to mention his release of information to outsiders. The Doves... well, they had always been furious with him. Both wanted him dead. If he wished to live he couldn’t stay in Japan.
Then again, did he have the skills to stay alive?
He had a solid knowledge of the black market, hence why he had been able to get fake papers so many times; then again, the Hawks, particularly the Earth-Crawlers, barely cared who they hired as long as they were competent. He was skilled at blending in, and he knew a couple of foreign languages.
Then again, if a Dove or Hawk caught up with him he’d be dead in no time flat; his physical capabilities approached nil, a scalpel being his best weapon and a Chinese cleaver being the heaviest he could carry. How absurd to think that he, a mere researcher, would be able to hold his own against a Dove or Hawk field agent.
An idea, a loathsome, loathsome idea, sprung to his mind. If he could find someone else who was trying to escape the Doves and Hawks, someone with a synergistic skill set, then maybe both of them could get out alive. He knew such a person... but this would require putting aside a lot of resentment on both ends.
He picked up his phone and dialed; he had gathered from his own data collection that the person in question had his own personal phone, unrelated to the Doves. He got a voice mail. “Sakazaki, I have a deal for you that could save your life. Meet me near the shrine; no one should be there and we need to talk. Alone.”
Shuu wouldn’t have been able to blame Sakazaki for not showing up, given the neurotoxin-infused scalpel incident. However, it was his only hope at this point. Hopefully it was Sakazaki’s best hope as well.
Was that... a flash of blue? “Sakazaki!”
