Pinocchio had learned over the years that sometimes it was just better to keep his mouth shut. Just because he knew this fact though, it didn’t mean he always stuck to his own advice. Actually he didn’t stick to it very often at all. “I’s 2019 you know- we really shouldn’t be littering anymore.” The words spilled from his mouth toward the culprit he addressed without a real second thought.
Otis was not sober. It was hard to be when he worked on the opposite side of a room to a bar. He’d just stumbled from out of one of the back rooms, his performances for the night now over. He was starting to make a habit of milling around after getting off stage and changing into something not covered in sweat so that he could flirt converse with the guests. “Do you come here often?” A very lame opener, but he could barely make out their face in his hazy state so who cared really?
“One day you’re in their good books and the other you’re being drawn and quartered!” Sally chuckled lightly as she scrolled passed the latest horrendous thing that the Gossip had said about her “There’s no winning here, so best not to try too hard. Am I right? Or are you on their side?” She turned to the person beside her
“AAAAAHG!” Sally screamed, throwing her phone away from her, not really knowing how to respond. “My mom is insufferable! I don’t need a boyfriend or a husband to make me happy!” She glowered, wanting to break something but not sure what. She suddenly realized she was being watched and her cheeks flushed as she spun around “H-how much of that did you see?”
“Soooooo . . . ” she hiccuped a little and let out a small laugh “Right, so apparently I’ve . . .” she paused for a moment and looked at the person opposite from her “I’ve made it onto the hot list!” she hiccuped again “And my personal life is . . . is now on this gossip thing-y-ma-boop and I’m 2 days behind on work!” she hiccuped once more “Do you wanna have another drink with me? I’ve only had 3” she smiled
“Yeah I’m fine!” she snapped, irritated that they tried to mess with her hair and pushing the hand away “Look I don’t need you coddling me! And I don’t remember asking for your help!”
Sally had been in the best mood since her clock struck midnight, it was officially October at last. This was her favorite month and the second she saw the clock turn she hit her Halloween playlist. She was working late from home but didn’t give a shit if she finished her tasks for the evening.
She cranked up the music and pored herself a glass of wine and danced around her apartment “Spooky scary skeletons send shivers down your spine!” she sang along loudly to the remix, totally unaware how loud the music was or that she had left the door to her apartment ajar and someone had walked in
"Oh wonderful, I'm being forced to go to an event and socialize. What does one wear to these menial events anyways?"
