Otis has never really got along with women. Growing up, he was very much a daddy’s boy. While his brother Jet Samson clung to his mother, Jet would much rather stick with Dad. Otis didn’t have the time for delicate things. He would rather be blunt and honest and to the point. With a mechanic as a Dad, there was nothing Otis loved more on the weekends than fixing up a car and getting precious father-son bonding time. Otis grew to be much tougher and harder than his brother as he didn’t listen to his mother’s words about sharing, caring and being nice to people. There is nothing that annoys him more than people who are nice, when he knows deep down they don’t want to be. Fake niceties grind his gears. Thankfully, despite him being nicer, Jet never fell to these levels. The brothers were very close. They did everything together and were definitely seen as a team. At school, if you only invited one of them to the party the other would come too, or they wouldn’t come at all. It was as simple as that. Thankfully when it came to school, the slight age difference meant they were never in the same classes. Had they been, the teachers would have been dealing with absolute hell.
Classes never interested Otis anyway. From a young age, he knew that he wanted to follow in his Dad’s footsteps so Math and English seemed pointless to him. Everything he’d need to know, Dad could help with. His Mom would constantly push him to make an effort but he never did. He didn’t need her advice though. Any situation he wanted to get out of, Otis was very good at charming people. The string of women he dated began when he was 14 and hasn’t really stopped since. Dating was interesting when it came to the Samson brothers. While women typically found Jet the more attractive one, he had absolutely no game compared to the smooth-talking Otis. So, he usually ended up sleeping with the women who began by showing interest in his brother. This routine carried on even when the pair changed school. They were headed to the infamous Wishing Well. The pair grew up in Perth so they were used to big cities. They both quickly immersed themselves in the schools sports, missing the easy access they’d had previously to the ocean. It was while here the pair met the woman who would go on to be their first ever female friend with whom at least one of them hasn’t slept with, not that Otis didn’t try repeatedly. Vanessa Van-Shrew had a sneaky way with people - One which the boys spied on for a short while before allowing a friendship to fully form. They appreciated her dastardly ways though and the trio quickly got into a routine. Jet and Otis would lure people in and Vanessa would deal with the intricacies.
During College, Otis received an ominous call to his tutors office. Upon arrival, he found himself joined by his brother. Their Father had been killed in an accident. A car had fallen on top of him while he was working on the underneath. He’d been killed immediately. Otis found this out from his brother though because as soon as the teacher had told him that his Dad was dead, he got up and stormed out of the office. Blood pumping round his body, Otis was flooded with adrenaline, and emotion. Tears stung at his eyes and all of his muscles were tense. Otis went completely off the rails, even more so than normal. He’d go on three day long benders completely off his mind of toxic mixes of drugs. It was this reaction to his fathers death that first drew a wedge between him and his brother. Otis did join his brother for the flight home to Australia, but ultimately Jet was left to assist their mother in the planning of the funeral alone. Otis turned up, only for the very end of the actual funeral, with red eyes and track marks all over his arms. Jet and his mother were outraged, telling Otis that he needed to pull his shit together. Again, he didn’t react well. On the day Jet and Otis were supposed to return to New York, Jet found himself alone. Otis didn’t turn up. His whereabouts were unknown.
20-year-old Otis had decided while drunk to get on a boat. He woke up in New Zealand. When he realised his brother had been left, he thought “Fuck it.” For the next five years, he travelled slowly around the world alone. He successfully avoided endless phone calls from both Jet and Vanessa by getting a brand new phone. Getting jobs was difficult because of course, not returning to Wishing Well meant he was technically a college drop out. He managed it somehow though, usually thanks to charming the wives of shop owners. The travelling allowed him to clear his mind and level his thoughts back out. It took some effort but he slowly managed to reduce his drug usage. Eventually though, he found himself being pulled back to the US. So he returned there after five years. He contacted Vanessa, who was simultaneously delighted and furious by his return. She refused to let him think he could walk back into life, but obliged in putting him back in touch with his brother. Otis was surprised to discover his brother was doing quite well for himself, assuming he had some high-skilled job. Vanessa eventually explained Jet was now a stripper. Of course, Otis jumped at the idea of being able to earn hundreds without much effort. Jet was forced to deal with the fact he’d be seeing his brother regularly again. They don’t rely on each other as much anymore, and Vanessa still hasn’t quite welcomed Otis back yet. Regardless, his made his own new network of friends. Wyatt Dague is a lively guy who Otis immediately knew would be fun on nights out. Alex Behemoth helped him settle in so they immediately bonded. Jason Hyde didn’t pay Otis any attention at first but now the boys have more inside jokes than Jet is comfortable with. Only time will tell if the Samson boys are able to fully rebuild their bond after so long apart.
