Kiss by candlelight please!
kiss. by. candlelight. ANON!! i am once again being self-indulgent and slapping this in the fantasy au because i simply cannot be stopped. this is based off the wedding scene in the two princesses of barmarre by gail carson levine
Princess Veronica was escorted down the aisle by her brother, Prince Bradley. The throne room looked beautiful. As was tradition in the Kingdom of Marimar, the ceremony took place at night - candles throughout the large space the only source of light.
Sir Jacob stood on the dias, a healthy King Thomas on one side and Lord Peter on the other. He looked handsome in his formal regalia. It wasn't the chainmail and leather armor she had grown so accustomed to seeing him in, but she liked him this way, too. Maybe even preferred it.
Bradley passed her off to Jacob with tear-filled eyes. But the only thing she could truly focus on was her future husband mouthing to her that she looked beautiful with a wink. It somehow made her grin turn even wider.
Lord Peter spoke the traditional stanzas from the Marimarian love poems. Then King Thomas had the couple recite the three marriage vows in unison. Veronica felt Jacob's deeper voice vibrate in her chest and it filled her with a joy beyond compare.
King Thomas produced a pair of golden scissors from his tunic. Jacob cut two locks of Veronica's deep brown hair first. Then she took the scissors and clipped a pair of his blonde tresses free. They placed a set of each strand inside the marriage charms around each of their necks while Bradley sang a traditional ballad.
"Prince Jacob," King Thomas said with a fatherly, tear-filled smile, "You may now kiss your bride."
Jacob cupped her cheek in his hand, much like he did in that cave all those weeks ago. He urged her nearer and she went freely. He pressed his lips to her's slowly, sweetly, as the assembly cheered. And their lips continued to mingle together in the soft candlelight.
