Helpful Resources for Medieval Fantasy
A collection of research links and cool websites I’ve found helpful for medieval fantasy worlds i.e. no electricity, horse and buggy, etc.
I try to update this post but there will probably be old versions floating around Tumblr. Google Drive is the best place to find the most up-to-date version.
If you find a cool link you think would help others, just message me!

Whether you’re looking for magical beings or mythological beasts, this list is a good place to start. I’ve kept most of the descriptions short and I’ve linked to more information.…
Looking for some fantasy creatures to add in, or get some inspiration from? Try this list.
Hi! I wonder if you have anything for me. My character is going to get execute for treason for trying to overthrown the king but i can't figure out how my character's plan was discovered. My character is ambitious and clever woman, she planned every little detail and had made sure her plans would not discovered. Thanks!
Options could include:
A traitor/spy discovering her work.
The woman, unbeknownst to her, was being kept under watch before she began planning and her movements were being tracked.
If your world has magic/mystics: Someone divined/predicted/had a vision of it.
They didn’t actually figure anything out, but they found her to be a problem and know planting treason is an easy excuse to turn anyone against another person and remove them from the picture.
Everyone makes mistakes. It’s completely possible your character did everything right, and things still didn’t work. There may have been a wrench thrown into the plan she couldn’t account for/adapt to, or a single, overlooked loose thread that ends up unraveling the whole thing.
I was wondering if you could give me some advice. In my story, I had to unite three separate Houses/Rulers of their own land into ONE uniting kingdom. The problem is, why would these three separate rulers would want to become or merge into one when they could co-exist independently? Thanks! :D
There are a few realistic reasons why these rulers would come together! Such reasons could include:
Another kingdom/house may pose threat to the others, and they want to make certain they stay in power.
The rulers are following suit after seeing others do the same successfully.
Co-ruling the large area gives each of them access to better trade/transport/resources.
Each ruler had married a sibling of the same family, who have slowly convinced their spouses to align so that their family can take over a large area and rule.
Each of their houses is slowly becoming less stable/wealthy/powerful, and merging them is the only way to keep power.
and, perhaps the most unconventional
The rulers believe that balancing their power between three individuals will result in a more fair rule, as their will be checks on each other’s power.
