Alright, been a while since I last had a consistent dream to report. Mostly just the usual segmented mess you can’t remember when you wake up anyway. This one I remember and it stuck with me all day.
Most likely heavily inspired by how much I was listening to The Adventure Zone podcast last night before bed. Still trying to catch up on the full story and all, made it past episode 51.
Anyways, this dream revolves around the TAZ main characters, Magnus Sideburns the human fighter, Taako Taaco the elven wizard and Merle Highchurch the dwarven cleric.
In my dream their crazy shenanigans had ended them up in a maximum security fantasy jail, both for the actual acts they done as well as being blamed for things they caused indirectly or just didn’t managed to keep from happening. Out of reach of the Bureau, the trio had to figure out a way out on their own. Of course, when told this prison is impossible to escape they only take that as a challenge.
In jail they meet a sketchy guy my brain named Hanzo, who had failed a lot of escape attempts but not lost hope just yet. With all his attempts he probably knows the prison more than anyone and he and Magnus get planning on how to escape the place for good.
My dream then skips all of that much more interesting stuff so I never get to find out how they DID escape.
Instead it cuts right to a dark night where Merle and Taako already escaped the prison and now walking a street for a meet-up point. Apparently Magnus and Hanzo escaped long before the the other two but had a plan to get them out too as soon as possible. As that jail is a really bad place.
Taako seems very bad off after their prison stay. Creating a magic light to look through the dark, despite his natural night vision, and Merle keeps telling him to snuff it out as they need to avoid any unwanted attention. Where a quiet Taako just turns the light into a strobe light effect instead, not even paying attention to Merle.
Suddenly a big van drives up and stops by them, a bunch of men in prison security armour on jumping out, waving their weapons and shouting as they surround the two escapees.
Taako, still making no sounds, just drops to the ground and curls up tightly, Merle standing over him with his hands in the air, going “Come on, you guys, you are giving my friend an anxiety attack!”
One of the men pulls off his helmet reveals it was Magnus, with a really bad prank to surprise his friends with when picking them up after their escape. Hanzo is there too, the rest of the men members of a gang they started since escaping jail.
The elf is still curled up tightly on the ground, unresponsive to the reveal that it was just a prank.
Merle has to explain to Magnus that, after his escape leaving the two behind to wait for his plan to complete to help them out too, things went pretty bad. The prison was a tough place, and Taako got so desperate he tried to escape the first chance given instead of waiting for Magnus’ plan to unfold as agreed. Turned out it was a trap, to provoke an escape attempt. Taako was soon captured before he got far, to be used as an example to let others know what happens when you break the rules. With his attitude problem towards authorities and former celebrity status, it felt like he was picked on purpose.
No one knows any details about how the punishments are handled, as those going through them never speaks of it in details and seem greatly traumatized.
Taako hadn’t spoken a word since he was captured and punished. A shaky husk of the show-off he used to be. Never revealing what was done to him.
And seems like Magnus’ bad prank had been the final breaking point for the elf as he has now gone completely catatonic. Eyes wide, pupils pin prick sized, he’s completely broken. Thinking he was going back to jail to be punished again he had just receded to hide in his own mind.
They get him up on his feet and he can walk as long he’s dragged along. His worried friends needing to bring him back to the gang’s new hideout and find out how to help him.
And my dream ended, I woke up and opened my eyes to see it was exactly one minute until my alarm would go.
That was an interesting dream for sure. Dark, but interesting.
