Playing Swords
A/N: A little drabble I wrote for @deathlikessodaandpizza ! Hope you all enjoy!
Minasel lowers her practice sword, wiping her brow. Even a half elf can get exhausted from over an hour of drilling in the humid Gondorian air. She walks over to the jug of water left on the benches at the edge of the training ground and takes a long desperate drink. She downs about half of it, before taking the rest and pouring it over head. The cool water runs down her back and she shivers a bit at the contrast from the hot air, shaking herself like a dog. She hears a soft little laugh and straightens up, brushing her wet hair out of her eyes. There's a little boy watching her with wide eyes and a gap toothed smile. He's young, maybe five? Minasel isn't sure, she has difficulty with human aging. He looks familiar, too. She frowns, thinking. Then it dawns on her. He's the young prince of Gondor, Faronion.
"You're all wet!" He laughs. Minasel smiles at his infectious joy.
"I am."
"Nana gets mad when I get all wet in the fountain," he says.
"You probably shouldn't get your clothes wet unless you've been training hard all day, like me," she informs him.
Faronion thinks on that, his chubby face screwed up. "So, if I play swords with you, Nana won't be mad that I'm wet?"
Minasel notices he is quite damp, his feet bare and a streak of mud on his cheek. He must have been splashing in the fountain beneath the white tree. She smiles.
"Well, we can certainly try."
Faronion beams from ear to ear. "Yay!"
Faronion, in full costume: Minasel, why aren’t you wearing a costume?
Minasel, in her regular clothes: I am wearing a costume.
Faronion: oh yeah? Then what are you supposed to be?
Minasel: an orphan.
Faronion’s little sister, Aerloth, loves being told stories and loves when they are being acted out right in front of her, but she doesn’t like when Minasel plays damsels or Faronion plays heroes (she’s really picky about that). So, Minasel and Faronion decide the best course of action is to switch places, with Faronion stealing one of his mother’s gowns and Minasel using her father’s coat.

It’s been awhile since I digitally drew a picture, but my roommate recommended a drawing app to use on my phone and even gave me a couple of styluses for it, so I decided to try it out.
Two amazing moodboards for Minasel and Faronion, created by the lovely @cassiabaggins
They look so good! Thank you! 😭❤️
Did I draw something cursed? Probably
Is this meant to show how they might look like to people in the future? Also probably
I wanted to draw Minasel and Faronion in fancy clothes… so that’s what I did!
Hiiiiii !!!! 1- Do they sleep with a stuffed animal? If they have multiple, who’s the favorite? AND 16- If money wasn’t a limit, what would they wear? AND 26-Talent or effort? AND 27-Forgiveness or vengeance (or…)? FOR BOTH MINASEL AND FARONION PLEAAASE !!!
Woah, so many questions! Thank you so much! Some of them were a bit difficult, but I tried my best to give a satisfying answer!
~~~
1- Both Minasel and Faronion do not sleep with stuffed animals. Minasel occasionally sleeps with her runestone and Faronion has this wooden horse figurine from when he was little, but they don’t have any stuffed animals.
…
16- Minasel does not care for money. Even if she did, she still wouldn’t get herself anything special to wear. She is completely fine lounging around in her fathers old coat and in a comfortable blue tunic with legging and boots. Although, she would like a plain blue dress that doesn’t itch at her sides and require her to wear anything fancy.
Faronion would wear a full suit of armor everyday if he could, but even he knows that something like that wouldn’t be very practical and be very uncomfortable. If he can’t wear a suit of armor, then he would be plenty comfortable in a long coat (like his fathers) with plain civilian clothes underneath. He rather not wear his prince clothes.
…
26- Both Minasel and Faronion believe in effort above all things. When effort is put into something, they have respect for that person, since they had to build their way up to get where they are instead of it all coming naturally, which is what Minasel and Faronion both had to do.
…
27- Minasel isn’t very vengeful, but she also isn’t very forgiving. She forgave those who gave her years of trauma, but even then there is no real way of knowing if she actually forgave them or just said the words. On the battlefield or when it involves a friend, she will have completely be vengeful, but she definitely won’t be the same way if it’s for herself.
Faronion is about the same way, but his reasoning is different. He only shows forgiveness to those who deserve it, like those who are genuine or kind to him. His vengeful nature will only come out if said person has caused any harm, either physically or emotionally, whether it be to himself, a close member of his family, or a friend.
Thank you for the ask! ❤️
