“Back To FarReach” Continued...
I hadn’t contemplated death, or my own mortality for a long while I realized. My arms hung drained and cadaverous over my head, shackled, as they were to chains hanging upwards. Sitting flat on a tailbone numbed from the rock cave floor, legs locked outstretched. As consciousness rekindles inside my skull, and I lift my unfocused eyes in the direction of the offensive cackling and snorting just away from my location; I know I am to be food. Just as so many others, I will be picked apart, the meatier portions first, cut from me while still alive, in order to infuse the steaks with adrenaline and other juices. I hear their, what to them is communication, but sounds like the rubbing of dry slabs, or the slapping of large slugs to the human ear. Eruptions of puss and saliva from their putrid mouths function as punctuation I am sure. I unlock one leg, bending at the knee, the cracking as if made of granite stone itself. The pain shoots. Quickly, as I can, I follow with the other leg and lift my frame upward. More unbelievable pain blinds me, as my arms are let down, grinding like old dry corn stocks. The feeling of crippling, searing pain now overtakes me and I let out a horrible yell. Silence now from my captors. The numbness with which my hands have been afflicted with is shocking. As tingling feeds my veins and nerves, the two figures move close. Hung, dark grey faces, hunched in front of the cloaked mass of their body. Two sets of maroon, opaque eyes examine me. To long stocks atop either head, independent of the rest of their bodies, lurch toward me and feel at my torso and face, and arms. Tiny feathery feelers on the ends I feel slightly as blood begins to rush to my body. My eyes burn to keep open, and I watch the ghoulish masks of their faces, their large slug-like lips, just merely facing me, as I do not register any sign of sentience beyond the fact of their actions. Their feelers are done with, what appeared to be, their examination, and presently they turn and glide away, around a cave wall and out of site. To Be Continued...
