My brain is on series rather than individual books... Burn, Reread, and Rewrite for Farsala, Knight & Rogue, and the Shield, Sword, and Crown series. (All by Hilari Bell)
[Burn/Read/Rewrite]
Burn - Shield, Sword, and Crown. You made a good preemptive counter-argument about how this series includes the first book we ever did Story Time for (one of us reads aloud while the other knits/draws/otherwise occupies our hands). And that’s a good point, buuuuuut this is still the series with the least emotional weight for me. So, sorry?
Read - Farsala. Honestly, this is still my favorite Hilari Bell series, and you need to read ittttt. There’s nothing about it I’d want to change; you couldn’t pay me enough to burn Soraya, adopted Aiel queen of character arcs; and I could read this a million times and still have Kavi break my heart every last time.
Rewrite - Knight and Rogue. Listen. LIsten. I love K&R. I always will. It was my favorite series for a long time. My URL comes from this series. There are always going to be elements of it that hit my nostalgia trigger. I’m always going to adore Michael and Fisk. But I still haven’t finished the last book because I lost interest, and I have a feeling if I reread it now I’d just notice all the little ways that my taste in books has changed since I fell in love with the series. I would never burn it, but I would adore a re-imagining that’s just a little bit more me. (See: ace Michael, aro Fisk, the two of them as qpps, also now that I think about it, they’re both 1000% autistic. Also consider: lady rogue!Fisk and nonbinary knight errant!Michael.)

Forging the Sword (Farsala, #3) - Hilari Bell
Forging the Sword (Farsala, #3) – Hilari Bell
Source: Goodreads Lady Soraya and Commander Jiaan have formed a tentative alliance with the multifaceted Kavi. The young commander will direct the army, the last remaining deghass will navigate alliances, and the peddler will rouse the people and forge the first Farsalan sword to be made of watersteel – the same formula the Hrum have been using to decimate the Farsalan resistance. Together,…

Rise of a Hero (Farsala, #2) – Hilari Bell

As the Hrum swarm the countryside, only one person could possibly bring Farsala’s people…

Fall of a Kingdom (Farsala, #1) - Hilari Bell
Fall of a Kingdom (Farsala, #1) – Hilari Bell
Source: Goodreads Jiaan is the eldest son of the high commander of Farsala’s army, but his half-blood status means he can never inherit, and he can never fight with the full-blooded deghans. His half-sister Soraya is a full-blooded deghass, but she will face sacrificial abandonment so that her people can win the oncoming war against the mighty Hrum. Kavi is a crippled peddler, but his slight…

So here's a little update - four more chapters got posted tonight! Starting with Chapter 10, we move up to just a few short months before the start of Fall of a Kingdom. Don't worry - this story isn't ending quite yet! Hope you enjoyed this update!
FARSALA!!1! I haven't met anyone else who's actually read those books before, seeing so many people talking about it makes me so happy! You wouldn't mind if I occasionally fangirled about it to you, would you?
Oh my god, PLEASE DO!!! I love Farsala so much I can’t even deal. I reread it a couple weeks ago and it broke me all over again. D:
Have you read anything else by Hilari Bell, by the way? I’m not gonna say Knight and Rogue is hilarious, but it does happen to be the source of my URL… Just sayin. >.>
