Tati (playing Seraph): "It's worth a shot."

Adam: "You're saying I can take it out??"

Tati: "If there's ever a time it's now!"

Adam: *gleeful* I do a magical girl transformation and hold the Herald of Mercy aloft! "Find me... The Gand!"

DM: ...Make me a Religion check, I guess.

Adam: 22.

DM: *makes face* You're not really feeling anything.

Tati: Can I make an Arcana check on the sword, then feel for any matching signature in the library? Both artefacts have been held by the same person at some point, so I'm looking for their magical trace. 29.

DM: *wrinkles nose* You feel the faintest pulse, like hearing your phone beep from the opposite end of the house.

Tati: "Pelor's fabulous hair. The sword's connected to something."

Adam: Can I make an Insight check on my sword?

DM: ...You know what, why not.

Adam: 32.

DM: *sighs* There's the faintest of tugs. You find yourself more tripping than taking a step in the same direction Seraph's pointing.

Adam: *eyes light up* Lessssgoooo!!!

DM: It's not that powerful!

I almost couldn’t believe my eyes and ears earlier today when I came across a new song from Houses. I’m pretty sure it’s been years since we’ve heard from the the project. In the interim, one half of Houses embarked on a solo endeavor named Dawn Golden, melting us many times over with his sentimentally moving pop. Houses reemerges with Fast Talk, joining forces with his friend Megan Messina to serve up the introspective rambling alt pop song, our first taste of Houses’ new Drugstore Heaven EP arriving September 28th on Downtown Records. Despite its rather perky keys and sprightly step, Fast Talk ponders dark themes related to lost friendships and substance abuse. Pre-order Houses’ new EP, here.

Tati (playing Seraph): Oooh, that's cool.

Adam (playing Billie): I say, "Well, we've done quite a service for you then by removing the beholder. Can we get some sort of reward?"

DM: The librarian says, "That is fair. For freeing the Library from the beholder, you may look at the books in this room, but not take them."

Marijn (playing Godric): "Fuck this! I found a super magical door, with a sign saying 'wizards' and 'forbidden', I waited four hours without touching it, and now you're telling me I can't have any of the cool loot inside?" I eldritch blast the wraith.

Adam: Woah! What happened to 'let's get down to business'?

Marijn: Godric has burned all his cognitive energy not opening the door. His tiny brain is used up.

December 29, 2025: "Fast Talk"

In 2018, Dexter Tortoriello, occasionally known under the moniker "Houses," released this phenomenal song and then basically fell off the face of the earth, I think. My dad and I heard it on the radio back when it first came out and I have had it on almost every single playlist I've ever made for the past almost-eight years. The lyrics are so clever, the beat is so catchy, and sonically, it feels like being a kid in the summer, sunburnt and running around your suburban neighborhood with your best friends. I'm always eager to find that feeling in music, it seems. Another niche I enjoy in music is references to superstition or religion, or any similar equivalent. It's such a fascinating storytelling tool in songwriting and everyone does it differently but in such profound ways. It's always stunning when Florence Welch does it, but I like it a lot here with casual references to Shangri-La and karma, too.
