Top five underused/killed off teen heroes?
Oh man, hit me where it hurts! Okay, Top 5 Killed off/Underused Teen Heroes. Limiting myself to Marvel because Teen Titans drove shock death to near comedic levels. 5) Fateball - Fateball is a teen hero introduced in a short-lived (Like 3-issues long) series called The B-Sides. They operate in Jersey (Hey! Kamala! Find some friends! Either them or the Suburban Jersey Ninja She-Devils). Aside from a punk aesthetic and kung fu skills above the average professional good, she has a literal working magic 8-ball. Yes, really. She asks it questions, and is WORKS. That power is so silly as to be endearing. Aside from being mentioned in Civil War: Battle Damage Report she hasn’t shown up.
4) Carmilla Black/Scorpion - A daughter of Banner who has done deep cover work against Hydra for SHIELD. Equipped with a poison touch/immunity to poison/radiation, and the ability to absorb and duplicate new ones (including a version of SPIN tech!) she’s quite powerful, but what make her fun is her moral compass (She gets tempted, but remains true to her ideals of good). She’s great to bounce off other young heroes, IMO. Bendis used her once to be a “New Scorpion” period without any further research, as Bendis does. It was terrible and aside from one I will not mention, she hasn’t really been seen since. Perahps with Cho on the road, she’ll meet up with him again …
3) Chante Giovanni Brown/Queen Divine Justice - A Mouthy, Social Justice Minded Black Girl from Chicago who is has Dora Milaje training and is also Wakandan Royalty? Yeah, she’s all sorts of awesome. Okay, so technically she is the heir apparent to the White Gorilla tribe (ya know, bad guys), but she herself is all sorts of awesome and well due for a return in the modern day.
2) Juston Seyfert and his Sentinel - I miss this adorkable crybaby.
1) Ken Mack/Mettle - It’s hard to think of a worse death, simply because of the horrible implications of it. I am damn sure Dennis Hopeless didn’t intend it, but the end result was a Black Jew from Hawaii being killed off as to make his Girlfriend available to be snogged by a literal super WASP. There’s nasty layers to that which no one would be stupid enough in this day and age to do deliberately. But beyond the horribleness of his death, Mettle is just such a sweet guy, contrasted by sensory deprivation driven bouts of anger/lashing out. It’s a great dramatic combination. And that he never got a proper team up story with Ben Grimm is a crime against fiction.
A CRIME!
