While she did use to know there were people out there that were not like her, people who were suffering hunger and fear and cold and pain, it wasn't until she lost everything she had once treasured, that she realized just how painful life could be for those who lived in misery. Balbadd is a prime example of misery itself, and she notices people don't seem to smile anymore. Not that she does either, at least not a genuine smile, yet it's still rather shocking, for all those people to look completely consumed by hatred.

Sir Ithnan says they're an important part of their plan, after all, Al Tharmen feeds on pain and grudge, and she never questions their actions, Ithnan's actions, because that's all she's known in her life, and in her eyes, they are in the right.

Cassim, that's the name of their leader, the one in charge of that group of miserable street rats that has turned Balbadd upside down. And she looks at him, from head to toe, and there's something about him which reminds her of herself. The misery, the anger, the hatred in his eyes. He might be at the bottom, and she might've been once at the top, but now they are the same.

While she doesn't really understand why Sir Ithnan would need her by his side this time, she doesn't complain nor ask, instead remaining with him at all times. That is, until now, when she ventures outside the run-down building to find the leader of the Fog Troupe smoking by the door. And she realizes it's ridiculous, but she's seen herself in his eyes, and somehow that makes her curious about him. “Your people seem to have plenty of faith in you. I have never seen anything like it before. I cannot help but wonder if that is how being king feels like...”

Sinbad gave the other permission to be in the palace so Ja'far could do nothing about it, even if he doesn't trust the other. So he was stuck turning away from the other to go back towards the kitchen. He definitely needed another cup of coffee to deal with this whole scenario.
