Comforting Edition {Sentence Starters}
Chrom wakes with a start, lurching forward and drawing in deep, gasping breaths. Fingers curl into his shirt just over his chest wherein his heart races. Visions of the final battle against Grima play before his eyes, and he looks frantically around his tent –
There are Risen everywhere. Too many almost. He’s covered in muck and ichor and his arms ache, but still he fights. Somewhere behind him he hears a cry and he whirls around. Arrows fly through the air and he looks up.
Fear grips him and steals his breath and he almost loses his head before he returns to himself. And then he is running. Running. Running. Running. Falchion cuts through a Risen for every arrow that strikes her back, and he knows he won’t make it. He can’t make it –
❝ Cordelia! ❞ Her name tears from his throat, voice rising above the din of battle. But it’s too late.
She is falling. Falling. Falling. Falling into the sea and he cries –
❝ Cordelia! ❞ he gasps, turning to the space beside him, panic written plainly across his face.
She stirs, russet hues blinking blearily against the darkness, trying to make out Chrom’s figure beside her.❝ Chrom…? What’s – ❞
Suddenly she’s enveloped in his arms and his face is buried in her hair. His shoulders are shaking and his hands cling desperately to her clothes as if trying to anchor himself to her. His breathing is uneven and his throat is tight, leaving him able to do little more than choke out a relieved sob as her arms come around him.
❝ Shh, ❞ she soothes, rubbing circles against his back and brushing his hair from his face.❝ It’s okay. I’m right here. ❞
He only holds her tighter and she lets him.
