Once they arrived back at Palms Pals Animal Shelter, Penelope had Buns bathed and ready to go home with them.

“Would you mind if I took a picture?” She asked.

“Sure!” Freeman stated. Faye was back to giving him the cold shoulder. She was so hot and cold lately, he sighed. He put the girls in the back of his hummer, handing Buns to them as he turned and pulled Faye over close to him.

“Say BUNS!” Penelope sang.

“BUNS!” They all said together, smiling. Buns barked in response to her new name, or at least that’s how it would seem.

“Call us if there is any infection near the injection site, other than that she’s got all her shots as you requested and her micro chip. Here’s a list of signs or symptoms to be concerned about as well as her name tag as well as yours to carry on you and our letter as well as the letter from their psychiatrist for her to be listed as a companion animal. Congratulations on your newest addition to your family, Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez! Take good care of her, girls!!”

“Bye Penelope!!”

“Bye Penny!!”

“Thank you, for everything.” Freeman shook the red head’s hand, before pulling her into a hug. “We’ll be in touch!”

“I look forward to it!” she smiled at him, turned and waved at everyone, her smile faltering for a second before turning and heading back inside.

Freeman turned around to see Faye standing next to the back of his hummer. Her arms crossed and a look of disgust on her face. “What?”

“What do you mean, what?”

Freeman laughed nervously, looking at the girls before grabbing Faye’s elbow and pulling her closer to the rover. “What is wrong with you tonight?”

“’We’ll in touch,’ ‘I look forward to it.’” she said mockingly, fluttering her eyelashes up at him dramatically. “What you do, fuck her for the dog?”

“What?” Freeman stepped back, stung by her words.

“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. I know you’d never..” she sighed, rubbing the goose egg on her forehead.

“How did you get that?” Freeman asked, not bothering to step closer to her. She clearly was upset and needed some space.

“I lunched into the car and hit my head on the roof,” she looked at the girls and then dug into her pocked handing him a folded piece of paper. “After I found this on my windshield.”

Freeman opened it while looking at her, then looked down read it and looked up at her again. All color from his face drained. “This is bullshit. She’s delusional. You know this is trash, right?”

“Is it?” Faye asked.

“Faye,” Freeman said softly, taking a step forward taking her face into his hands. “Baby, there is no one that could ever compare to you or take your place in my heart. My soul is yours.” He pressed his forehead against hers, closing his eyes.

He stepped back, pulling his phone out of his pocket and pressing the number 3 down. “What are you doing?” Faye asked.

“I’m calling Madlaina.”

Faye stepped closer and wrapped her arms around his midsection, pressing her ear to his chest.

“Mads, it’s Freeman. We got a problem.”

Red Lingerie Pt. 6

“I shouldn’t have let it go on so long without telling you…” Faye covered her mouth with her hand to hide the smile, trying to look concerned at the same time. She had a sneaking suspicion she looked like she just ingested a toad that was trying to climb its way back up, but Freeman didn’t notice.

“I feel awful for not telling you sooner, and I totally understand if you don’t like it, I should have...I should have told you much sooner.” Faye snorted, but she was pretty sure it came off as a sob, because Freeman suddenly looked alarmed. She was stifling laughter, her shoulders shook with it, but he mistook it for something else.

“Faye, please, I’m so sorry, don’t cry-”

She couldn’t hold it in anymore. With a screech she was pretty sure sounded like a deranged monkey, she began laughing so hard she was crying. She sat up and clutched her stomach, rocking back on the bed. She couldn’t catch her breath, she was laughing so hard, trying to wipe the tears out of her eyes, but they were coming too fast, so she abandoned that and settled on slapping the bed with her hand.

Freeman stared at her, wondering if she had finally cracked, until realization began to dawn on him.

What are you, my husband???

Pfft, It’s not like we’re married or anything!

Okay, MR. Rodriguez!

He thought she had been teasing him about being too controlling- but she was teasing him because she KNEW.

A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, and he waited until Faye could take huge lungfuls of air before he said anything.

“How long have you known?”

“Uh…” Faye rolled her eyes up towards the ceiling, thinking and wiping the last tears away from her eyes. “About...eight months?”

“You knew for EIGHT months, and you didn’t say anything?” Freeman stared incredulously at her. “Faye.”

“What?” She shrugged. “Literally everyone told me to just wait it out, you’d tell me in your own time. So that’s what I did.”

“You actually listened to people for once?” Freeman laughed, shaking his head. Faye bit her lip, then burst into another hysterical fit of giggles. It had been way too long since he had heard that sound, uncontrollable genuine laughter.

He lunged forward and kissed her, holding her face in both hands when he pulled away. Her eyes were bright and sparkling with the knowledge that she had pulled the wool over his eyes for eight months and actually gotten away with it. She had, for once, bested him at his own game. Her mouth widened into a grin.

“What?”

“I love you. I missed you.” Faye’s grin widened.

“I love you, too.” Freeman rolled on top of her, the both of them kissing in between giggling and laughing.

“Well hey now, wait a minute.” Faye pushed him off of her and sat with her hands on her hips. “If I’m married, where is my ring?” She held up her left hand and wiggled her fingers for emphasis. Freeman blinked at her for a second.

“Well, do you….do you want to go out and buy a ring? Or, do you want to have an actual wedding?” Faye gasped, her hands flying to her mouth and her eyes widening.

“Like, a real wedding?” Freeman nodded. “Like, a white dress, bridesmaids, all of our family there….wedding?”

“Yes, Faye, a real wedding. You in a gorgeous white dress, standing in front of all our friends and family, telling them and the entire universe that we want to spend the rest of our lives together.” Faye didn’t move for a moment, and Freeman was almost sure she had frozen in shock, until he heard a high pitched, steady ringing coming from behind Faye’s hands, and it increased in volume, he realized she was the one making that sound.

“I get to have a wedding!” She shouted in his face, then dissolved into another fit of giggles. “A real wedding! To you! A wedding!” He was almost positive she was going to start jumping up and down on the bed.

“Yes….after I properly propose to you.” This time, Faye’s eyes watered and she threw her arms around his neck and began kissing him all over his face.

“I love you. I love you so much. You haven’t asked yet but yes. Yes, yes, yes, I love this. I love all of this. Now I can pretend I’ve been bugging you for a ring for forever and we’re all anticipating a proposal any day now so I can start planning the wedding.” Freeman laughed, shaking his head.

“Whatever makes you happy, Faye.” She settled into his arms.

“YOU make me happy.” She kissed him before rolling over and grabbing her phone off of the night stand.

“What are you doing?”

“Uh, texting Braylie?” She had barely unlocked her screen when he took the phone from her.

“Oh no, not yet.” He placed her phone on top of his own before rolling back to face her and gather her in his arms. “I’m going to do this the right way now. I’m nowhere near done with you.”

Red Lingerie Pt. 3

“I do?” She pulled away slightly, staring him straight in the eyes to see any signs of him lying for her benefit. They seemed genuine enough….

“You do. You know how long it’s been since I’ve seen you? All of you?” He spun her around slowly, causing her to giggle. “Damn.” He shook his head. “You are one incredible woman, Faye.” Faye felt her cheeks heat up from the compliment, but her heart was about to burst out of her chest. After all that had happened, he still found her desirable. The thought ignited a long lost flame inside of her.

Freeman must have noticed a change in her eyes, because he stilled. His eyes stared right back into hers, a question forming in them.

Are you really ready for this?

She answered by leaning up and kissing him deeply, noting the immediate change in his body language. He relaxed into her, but stiffened as if he were holding himself back. She hadn’t kissed him this way since before she left, and if it felt anything for him like it did for her, she was surprised he wasn’t picking her up and laying her on the bed immediately. Like she wanted him to.

“Faye…” He moaned into her mouth, but pulled away with darkened eyes, breathing heavily. “Are you…” He swallowed hard. “Are you sure you’re ready for this? I mean...you went through quite a lot. What if your body isn’t ready for this?”

“You don’t think I know my own body, Freeman?” She tilted her head to the side ever so slightly, something she knew would drive him nuts. She let her fingertips contour his arm, feather light touches as she made her way down his arm and over his chest, casually undoing one of the buttons on his shirt.

“No, that’s...that’s not what I’m saying…” His eyes darkened further. He was trying hard not to give in, for her sake, but that’s all she wanted him to do.

“Then what ARE you saying?” She looked up at him through her eyelashes, letting one corner of her mouth curl upwards. Teasing.

Freeman took a visible breath and took her hands in his, moving them to her sides before grabbing her arms. He turned her and sat her gently on the bed, then straightened. She tried to stifle the giggle when she noticed the obvious bulge in his pants.

“I’m saying there’s something that you might not be aware of that could still hurt you. And I don’t want to do that. I don’t want to be someone who hurts you.” He put his hands on his hips, sighing.

“Freeman…” She stood, again kissing him just deeply enough to put him back in a haze. “Baby…” He groaned at the use of the word, and she felt a small sense of victory flare up within her. “You’ve watched me heal all this time. You’ve seen me find my limits and stick to them. I’m not one to push it if I don’t feel I’m ready. Please.” She kissed his neck lightly, feeling the muscles beneath her lips clench. He sucked in a breath, pushing her away once more to stare in her eyes.

“You’ll stop me? If anything feels off? If anything at all hurts?” She smiled, running her hand through his hair then bringing it down to cup his face.

“I promise.” She grabbed his arms and put them around her waist. He pulled her closer, kissing her as deeply as she had been kissing him, and she felt herself melt into his arms.

He lifted her up and laid her down gently on the bed his fingertips traced her exposed skin, then ran over the lace covering a small amount of her body, leaving only the bare minimum to imagination.

Slowly, Freeman pulled her up into a sitting position, and while he unclasped the back of the bra, he kissed any skin he could reach, sending chills running up and down Faye’s spine. He slowly brought the garment down over her breasts, revealing them and kissing them lightly. Apprehension fluttered through Faye, both good and bad. There were more scars to be revealed with every inch that he peeled down the garment. More of her he’d see- completely and fully, for the first time since….forever.

He peeled down more, causing Faye to concentrate hard on the ceiling and not on the fact that he was kissing her stomach-kissing her scars.

“Faye.” He was looking up at her with a strange look on his face, like he knew exactly what was going through her head at that exact moment. “You’re beautiful.” He moved up to hover above her, kissing her forehead. “Please don’t doubt that.” He kissed her cheek before kissing her lips again, moving his hands down to slowly slide off the rest of the garment. She felt completely exposed, but for the first time, comforted.

Freeman was staring down at her, taking in her entire body. She felt her skin crawl with anticipation- were the scars gross? They were pretty gross. But he kissed them so tenderly before moving down to her thighs that suddenly she forgot to be self conscious in front of him. This was Freeman, after all.

He stopped kissing her to remove his shirt, quickly undoing the buttons and then tossing it aside, throwing the undershirt away right after it. Faye sat up to undo the belt, taking her time and making sure to brush against the very prominent bulge in his pants, enjoying the way his breathing changed each time she did so. She finally pulled his pants down, allowing him to kick out of them before grabbing him and stroking him gently.
