有一夜，邁爾博士(F.B.Meyer)在金巴蘭(Cumberland) 山邊獨自漫步時，開口禱告說：「父阿，在這山的周圍，若有一個人迫切需要五旬節的恩典的話，那個人就是我！但我不知如何來接受祂的聖靈！我疲乏得不能想、不能感受、甚至不能好好的禱告。」

就在此時，有一個内在的聲音告訴他：「你從復活的基督的手中接受聖靈，好像你從爲你死的基督手中接受赦免一樣。不論有没有充滿喜樂的感覺，憑信心算這恩典是你的，孩子，照你的信心要給你成就！」

邁爾從心中答覆主說：「主啊，我將這可頌讚的聖靈吸入我的每一部分，好像我一口一口地吸入夏夜溫暖的空氣。」他見證說：「我並不覺得有手按在我頭上，也沒有火熖落在我頭上，没有天上來的大風經過我，我也没有奮興的感覺和激動的情緒，只是藉著信心接受，接受，直到現在還是不断地接受。
