Listening to Dragonquest (Anne McCaffrey). It’s been so long since I last read this that I had forgotten it had fire lizards in it.  I’m usually better with books than that, even with my terrible memory, but for some reason I’d consigned them only to the Dragondrums series.

So the president just decided he doesn't have to follow the law. I know, I know, old news. But this one's more of a big deal than you might think. The House and the Senate both approved the Russian sanctions with a veto-proof majority. That means the President has no choice but to institute said sanctions. There is no question or complexity here. The President is flat out refusing to do his job and refusing to follow the law.

The way it's supposed to work is that the legislative, judicial, and executive branches all serve to check the power of one another. But that only works when our legislators put loyalty to the Constitution and the country above loyalty to party and/or simple greed.

If we weren't involved in a constitutional crisis, we are now. This is it. If you support 45 on this one, you are supporting someone who is actively denying that the constitution or the other branches of government have any power to limit his authority. If the president of the united states can blatantly disregard the law and a veto-proof majority of congress, then he can blatantly ignore anyone and anything that opposes him in any way.

How do you prefer your daily dose of fascism? It doesn't just happen in third world countries, donchaknow?

I strongly support sensible gun control laws, but I’ve always been a supporter of the Second Amendment.  

I’ve decided that it’s time to change that stance.  Because the Second Amendment, like the Electoral College, has failed us.  

Not one militia in existence today is willing to use their arms, nor place their lives on the line, to defend civil rights.  To protect powerless minorities against corrupt authority figures  To fight for what makes America truly great.

So, in my opinion, since the Second Amendment is not being used as intended, it’s time to do away with it altogether.

When the fam visited over the holidays, I checked the wine racks and found one last bottle of Moonstruck Meadery’s cherry mead.  We rang in the new year with about half of it and sent the rest back with them.  

We will never see that brand again.  Moonstruck won international awards and just shut down without warning last year.  I hope to find something as good again.
