Who needs smalls anyway?
OMG so I’ve had this head canon for 2 years for my Dria Cousland and Cullen but could never get it down. Then along came my amazing friend @kemvee and look at this masterpiece of lemony goodness she created!! Basically angst and more angst.
“So talk,” Alistair closed his office door and turned to face Ari who was absentmindedly playing with papers on his desk.
“I took him to the clinic today. I was hoping…” Ari let out a shuddering breath. “It doesn’t matter.”
“What happened?” Alistair raised an eyebrow, full of concern.
“Nothing. Nothing at all,” she plopped down in his desk chair and put her head in her hands as she leaned forward.
“Did he hurt you again?” Alistair’s voice was tight as he watched her. He felt his chest tighten when she lifted her head, tears were flowing down her cheeks.
“No, Alistair. He didn’t even touch me. That’s the point,” she sniffled. “He acts like I’m made of magebane. I thought maybe he’d remember something happy, or that we could spend time together getting the clinic back in order.”
Alistair moved around his desk, crouching down in front of her and offered her a handkerchief. “That sounds like a wise plan.”
Ari wrapped her arms around his head and rested her head on his shoulders. Alistair pulled her into a hug as he knelt there.
“It didn’t work. It looked like maybe it was, but then he shut me out again. He told me he didn’t want me there,” Ari’s tears soaked his shirt. “I’m losing him and I don’t know how to stop it.”

Reconnect - Chapter 2

Cullen starts working with Anders. Everyone tries to reassure Ari that they are there for her. Alistair’s place on the throne is in danger, and Eleanor has a question for King Alistair.
“So what trouble have you gotten in since I’ve been gone?” she asked Alistair with a teasing smile.
The King exchanged a look with Teagan and Ari knew she’d stumbled upon something.
“I was teasing, what’s going on?” her voice full of concern.
“Our scouts in the south tell us that Anora’s gathering support, possibly an army.” Teagan answered.
“For what?” She quirked her eyebrow, her eyes trained on Alistair who wasn’t talking, looking agitated.
“They seek to remove his Highness from the throne and place her upon it,” Teagan explained.
“So what is the plan? Should I contact Ignacio to…” she started to ask.
“No.” Alistair cut her off. “I am not hiring assassins.”
“Then what?” she questioned. “Ali, I know that..”
“No, don’t try telling me this is how it’s done. We’ll just garner support. Highever, Alamar and Amaranthine are a given. It’s the Arls and Banns in the south we need help from,” Alistair answered. “I need representatives to travel there and get support where we can.”
“Sounds reasonable. Who will you send?” Ari nodded. She knew the answer the minute she noticed Alistair stand up straighter and move further away, out of arm range.
“You.”

It’s the Halloween Costume Party, but the evening does not end as planned.
“We’re here, hun,” Leli had been holding her hand the entire ride.
Cara just nodded, and took off in a run for the ER doors as soon as Bela had the car in park. She looked around frantic as she arrived at the ER desk.
“Nathaniel Howe, he was just brought in,” she asked in a shaky breath, her eyes darting around looking for Anders.
The attendee typed in something into the computer and then looked up at her, “The doctors are with him now. Someone will be with you shortly to speak with you, Ms…”
“Cousland,” Cara answered. “Is he alive?”
“As far as I know Ms. Cousland. If you’ll take a seat, I’m sure someone will talk to you soon.” The attendee motioned towards the waiting room seats.
Leli and Bela entered just then and walked with her to the seats. “Did they say anything?” Bela asked her.
“Just that the doctors are with him now and someone will be out shortly to talk with me,” Cara sat on a chair, Leli and Bela on either side of her. Bela took her hand and squeezed it while Leliana put her arm around Cara’s shoulders and held her. “I can’t lose him, Leli.”
“I know, he’s going to be fine. Anders is with him.” Leli tried to reassure her while exchanging a look of worry with Isabela.
