Yes, exactly! And the way he's freaking out to make everyone have a drink with him, and when Jacob confronts him on why he's acting so jumpy he says it's just bc Cheech (or Chet Pussy, as the character is named) punched him or whatever. And it's like, sure, Seth. Sure. You, Mr. Cool. Mr. "Everybody be Cool," is that agitated bc some pussy hawker touched you? C'mon, man. You didn't fool Jacob and you're not fooling me.

As for the latest ep, it was SUPER FREAKING VIOLENT. Like, wow. Really icky. Blood and guts and body parts and vampire strippers getting cut in half with chainsaws with blood fountaining everywhere...but they did TRY to give Seth more of the sense of humor like he has in the movie, but honestly. DJ Cotrona just doesn't sell it as well as George Clooney.

(I have all sorts of opinions about his performance vs. George Clooney's, but just judging from the general tumblr consensus about show!Seth, I imagine they'd be pretty fucking unpopular.)

Movie!Seth is so much happier to be at the Titty Twister than show!Seth, but it's like in a really manic, spazzed-out way. Like I think he's just as freaked as show!Seth, but he's trying to act all excited and thrilled. Movie!Seth is a more complicated man in 2 hours than show!Seth has been in 7--but I think they're just building him more slowly on the show bc, ya know. They have time.

It shows how the standards of entertainment have changed that a show rated tv-14 is way bloodier and gorier than a 15-year-old movie rated R.

And I used to think the movie was sooo violent and nasty.

Eta: also it boggles my mind that they can show THAT MUCH blood and gore, but they can’t say “fuck.”

Yes, I am scarred by the f-word, but seeing a girl chainsaw someone in half is no big deal.

Richie's the older brother??

Oh the hotly debated topic of the fdtd fandom. So it sounds like you might be familiar with the movie, in which case you know that SETH was the elder of the two.It seems like on the show they might maybe possibly have changed that. The dynamic between the brothers is the same, and that dynamic strongly implies Richie-as-younger. However, the ranger that's chasing them calls RICHIE the older brother.He might have misspoken. He might have been just plain wrong. It's a strange thing to have a character say and not bother to correct if it's just wrong, tho. I don't know. It's very strange.To me, and to a lot of ppl in the fandom, it's one of those "what did he say? I didn't hear that. Lalallalalala" type things.Unless they produce birth certificates on the show (and even then, maybe), I'll always stick with Seth-is-older bc that's how it is in the movie, and that's just how it makes sense.

Is from Dusk till Dawn worth getting into? I love the movie but I'm worried about the show being stuck in the limbo of not quite the film, not quite it's own thing

Sooo I'm huge into the film. Like, one of my top 10 favs for sure. The funny part is most of the ppl I see around tumblr who are into the show don't seem to be into the film at all? I mean, I know part of it is bc the movie came out in 96 and compared to a lot of ppl on this site I'm fuckin Methuselah, sooo...

But anyway. Yeah, I was wary for the exact same reason. Robert Rodriguez said he decided to do it as a series bc there was a ton they wanted to do with the film that they couldn't bc of time and such. Now he's telling the story he always wanted to tell. He says the film is like the short story and the series is like the novel.

So in that way it's AWEsome. Like, one of my fav parts of the movie is that last shot where you realize the club is an ancient Aztec temple and these vampires have been doin this shit for centuries. That whole mythology angle is the cornerstone for the series, which I love. I always wanted more about that anyway, and all we got in the movie was one quick glimpse at the end. (I haven't seen the sequels; maybe they expand on that more, idk)

Anyway. The weakness of the show (besides the fact that it's rated tv-14, so hearing Richie and Seth never curse is weird as hell) is the lack of humor. The movie is funny--like, the whole thing, even the big massacre. George Clooney is hilarious. I mean, he's funny anyway, but the script really played to that strength. The show takes itself very seriously. There are funny moments, and ppl not familiar with the movie will prob tell you the show's really funny, but compared to the movie, I really miss the humor, esp Seth's particular brand of humor.

Okay, so, I'm rambling a bit. Point is: yeah, as a fan of the film I enjoy the series. Part of what I like is the comparison, as you can prob tell from the gif series I've been doing. But there's so much more--tons of backstory on the Fullers, the Geckos themselves, the mythology, plus Carlos is this crazy snake vampire dude played by Wilmer Valdarama, and then there's this Texas Ranger who's hell-bent on killing the Geckos, so he's chasing them from here to next week.

I think it's worth it. I'm not frustrated like I often am with film-to-series or even book-to-series (HELLO, True Blood) adaptations, and you can see with a basic shot-by-shot comparison how Robert Rodriguez has matured as a director and visual storyteller. That appeals to the film geek in me. I just hope it gets a little funnier. Because I rarely laugh out loud at things, but I lol through pretty much the whole of the movie--and have only laughed like twice through all 5 eps of the series.

(PS: I hope you don't mind me posting this, but I thought maybe some other ppl might have the same question and might be interested in the answer.)
