Foreign Exchange 2015 Winner-Michelle Dapra Atkinson

Austin, Texas-based photographer, Michelle Dapra Atkinson goes beyond the technique of macro photography to explore an imagined life of insects.  The evolution of her bug stalking project began with a decade long series of insects and spider portraits.  Born out of chance, and magnified by the close-up perspective within a digitally composed panorama, the images shape a new story for the creatures.

Atkinson graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in photojournalism.  Her work has appeared in many publications including the Dallas Observer, the Austin Chronicle, The Washington Post, and Rolling Stone Magazine.  In 2015 she exhibited her bug-stalking series at the Julia C. Butridge Gallery in Austin, Texas.

Foreign Exchange 2016 Winner Chris Dorley-Brown

Focussing on London’s east end since the 1980s, Chris Dorley-Brown’s photography records civic developments in the context of urban regeneration and  social polarity. Operating mainly outside the gallery / art scene, he frequently collaborates with cultural institutions to create and re-animate existing archives and collections.

2015 saw the publication of two widely acclaimed photo books, "The Longest Way Round” (Overlapse) and "Drivers in the 1980s”  (Hoxton Mini-Press)

Foreign Exchange 2015 winner Ursula Kluz-Knopek

Intermedia artist, using the installation, video and photography. Particularly interested in the relationship between the object and the recipient, in which the second one is never only an observer. She is a doctoral student at the Faculty of Intermedia on the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She graduate the University of Arts in Poznan. For several years, she’s the owner of the „Studio Bakłażan” graphic studios, and she is a member of STGU (Graphic Designers Association). A scholar of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. She also works as a mentor in the project „Link to the Future for Information Society Development Foundation” funded by Microsoft. Editor-in-chief of the Woof Woof Arf Arf – artistic and scientific magazine.

Foreign Exchange 2016 winner Min Kim Park

Born in South Korea, Min Kim Park explores issues surrounding gender, ethnicity and identity using performance, video, photography, sound and video installation. Park’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since 2007. Her work has been included at the New Mexico Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, Site Santa Fe, Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona State University, University of Houston, University of California, Santa Barbara, Emory University, Kinsey Institute, Private Museum in Singapore, Syo gallery in Korea, Korean Cultural Center in Beijing, China. In 2012, Park’s video work, Zummarella was screened at White Box, New York, Columbus International Film and Video festival, CologneOFF

and Videoholica. Park has been an artist in residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art and the recipient of a Rosenquist artist in residency at North Dakota State University. She received a MFA degree in Photography from the University of New Mexico in 2007. She has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University in Chicago. Currently she is an assistant professor of photography in the department of Art and Design at Purdue University.

Foreign Exchange winner Marcus DeSieno

Marcus DeSieno is a lens-based artist from Tampa, Florida whose work is concerned with science and exploration in relation to the history of photography. He received his MFA in Studio Art from the University of South Florida in 2015. DeSieno often assumes the role of the amateur scientist in his work in order to investigate photography's historic relationship with science in regards to the notion of the invisible. Antiquated and obsolescent photographic processes are often combined with contemporary imaging technologies to engage in a critical dialog on the evolution of photographic technology in relation to seeing. DeSieno's work has been exhibited nationally at The Center for Fine Art Photography, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Rayko Photo Center, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, and various other galleries. His work has also been featured in a variety of publications including FeatureShoot, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, LENSCRATCH, National Geographic's Proof, PDN, Slate, Smithsonian Magazine, and Wired.
