though that only made the situation worse!

now the two of you were borrowing books just to keep them away from the other and those books started to pile up in your rooms

one day, canas finally snapped at you in the library, asking you what your deal was and why you hated him so much

it ended up with both of you just throwing accusations at each other and eventually getting kicked out of the library for being so loud

outside, you were forced to calm down a little and you finally mentioned how canas had been the one starting this all, by stealing the books you wanted to read right from under your nose

though canas insisted that he had never meant any harm! he was genuinely interested in those books and had only smiled at you because he had hoped to befriend you

but then things escalated and ended up like this, with both of you banned from the library…

you end up apologizing to canas, feeling pretty stupid now that you realized you had been in the wrong all this time

though canas admits that he wasn't all innocent either

ever since jaffar had joined the army, he had kept his distance from everyone. he knew that there were a lot of people that despised him for his past, some being very vocal about it while others quietly held a grudge. and despite you only ever being kind to him, he still believed you had your own reason to hate him. perhaps being the only one who was kind to him was your way of getting him to open up to you and become vulnerable, so you had an easier chance stabbing him in the back.

but you never did. no matter how jaffar treated you, you were genuinely kind to you. even when he told you to leave him alone, even when he attempted to avoid you, you still found your way to him and you were as kind as you always were. after a while, jaffar had to admit to himself that the moment of you stabbing him in the back wouldn't come. and when he realized that, he couldn't help but wonder why you were with him.

"why are you so kind to me? i've killed your allies and friends. i've been trying to get you to leave me alone and have been nothing but cruel to you. so why? why bother?"

he had asked you, curious to why you'd waste your time on him. but you had only smiled at him, with such kindness in your eyes, as you gave your answer.
