lady of the woods
so... i think i gave my name to one of the fair folk..
i went on a walk in the woods earlier, and i was feeling strange already, like i was being pulled. and this isnt exactly out of the ordinary, the back side of the farm is something Other that i can’t explain. once you cross the creek that cuts the farm in half, you’re not in the human realm anymore, not entirely at at least. it is not uncommon for me to go to the back side, walk through the field just fine, and then as soon as i enter the holler i hear voices telling me to go to sleep in the little dents in the ground where tree roots used to be (a big storm came through when my dad was a boy, and pulled up a lot of big trees, or at least thats what i’ve been told). Also my phone turns itself off when im in the holler, no matter how charged, and will not come back untill im back home. the noises you hear in those woods are n o t deer. the berries grow faster out there too. all in all, there is Something there.
so im walking through the creek, looking for rocks and flowers and bones, and something, i dont know what but i was searching for something. i get all the way to the fence, as far down the creek as i can go, and suddenly i have the urge to sit down, facing away from the fence, so i do. the sunlight in the little spot im getting becomes brighter for some reason and the breeze feels like it is surrounding me instead of just going past me. everything is so warm. and then there is a voice in my head. i can’t remember what she said, but she was there, voice clear as a bell. i closed my eyes and let my mind go blank, and i could see her face, i could see her. she asked me what my name was, casually, and i told her like a fool, screaming at myself after it slipped out. i asked her if she was going to use it against me, she only laughed.
after a couple minutes of sitting there in her company, she told me to grab a rock (and made it very clear which one, a sparkly little part of a geode) and it was time for me to leave and find a large walking stick to smooth out and to bring with me into the woods from now on. after finding my stick and cleaning it up a bit, she told me it was time for me to go straight home before i regretted it.
