Ever since their talk Anye had made an effort to try and spend a couple hours give or take around Sam a day, they didn't have to talk or interact, but she'd sit in the same room as him and read or just curl up just so they were sharing the same space. It wasn't as suffocating as before and Anye didn't feel like the very air itself was trying to choke her when she was around him.
She'd dared to leave him a tea and a slice of chocolate cake in his office when he was working and hadn't been met with a scolding despite being told to stay out all those months ago—whether or not that still applied really was up in the air but Anye was slowly pushing the limits of comfort zone in all the little ways she used to.
Anye felt her heart hammering in her chest, she knew Sam had specifically told her to stay out of the bedroom area, but she'd been up and down recently, especially fetching things when everything.. escalated.
Each step felt like a mountain as she climbed them, would this bring her closer or push her further away from Samuel she didn't know.
But she had to try.
She rounded the top of the stairs, fingers brushing the plants that grew on the wall for a little bit of strength and she walked over to the piano that overlooked the bottom of the house.
She revealed the keys and ran her fingers along the ivory with a soft sense of melancholy. She hadn't heard it be played in months. An instrument such as this shouldn't be silent for long periods. It was meant to sing.
Anye had learned to play, many years ago where it was appropriate for a lady such as herself to learn and felt a tugging on her heartstrings as she pressed the first key and it resounded around the house.
She took a breath and began to play.
