I saw this on facebook and I thought you’re the right person to ask. If Johanna had lived the chances for Tyrion to grow up in a more loving environment would be better or she would hated him too?

Essentially I think that Tyrion’s life would have been marginally better if Joanna had lived, but Westeros is such an ableist society that growing up as a dwarf would still have been very difficult for him, and I think he still would have faced a lot of prejudice from his own family, even from his mother.

I believe you should definitely give it a try,without worrying about what the readers may think . For me, creating a self insert character felt like a sort of catharsis (or is it too much of a word to use? I don’t know).

Thanks for your response! And I will give it a go.

I see it as a way for me to deal with my own personal flaws. And I do want my writing to feel good. So yeah, it’s indulgent therapy but I’m really excited about where I can take this character.

I don’t see self-inserts as bad, it’s more about ~how~ you do it. I do think making them a perfect cinnamon roll is a bit too much. That’s what I want to satirize.

Wait, you mean is possible to watch the trilogy without ending up having a crush on him?

Not possible at all, Christian Bale as Batman is that beautiful he triumphs all possibilities, making the audience madly in love with him :)

To me it seems they were a bit torn between “please everyone but also take risks” (ex. dark themes but also silly jokes). Also I guess they tried to fit too many things in 2h movie. Was it really that necessary to have 3 plot lines going on? Like I loved the movie, but it could have been so, so much better.

You summed it up pretty well. Especially about pleasing everyone and the 3 plot lines (where they don’t seem to be connected in a sophisticated way). I just hate that filmmakers have to pick between ‘please everyone’ and ‘risks and darkness’. TLJ was probably encouraged to be like an MCU film, and the end result was something that didn’t suit SW at all.
