1: Do you try to stay away from walkthroughs?
For a first play through yes, I like to try to figure things out on my own, even if that means spending hours navigating through a series of grey hallways that all look the same and inevitably retracing my steps just to find the exit. Or using my own horse as dragon bait just so I can slowly pick off its health with my bow from wherever it is I’m hiding. On a second play through though all bets are off, I love me some 100% completion.
2: Company you’re always loyal to?
I think the first company that won me over was Nintendo with Pokemon Red, but Bioware has my heart, I really love a good RPG because I love a good story. Dragon Age was the first Bioware game I ever felt a real attachment to and playing it is what convinced me to give Mass Effect a try, despite my reluctance to play a game that didn’t have dragons or magic in it.
3: Best game you’ve ever played?
I can’t answer this question with just one game, so I will instead just say the entire Mass Effect Series.
4: Worst game you’ve ever played?
WOW, not because I didn’t like the game, it’s quite to opposite. I think the graphics are charming and have aged well and I made some very good friends through the guilds. But the repetitive nature of the quests, level grinding and the general immaturity that could be found on most servers wore on my nerves and eventually WOW and I just drifted apart.
5: A popular series/game you just can’t get into no matter how much you try?
Halo. I gave it a shot when it first came out on my friends XBox, because I was still in high school and only had a PS2. Maybe it was the constant dying on my part that turned me off, but I just never got invested in the game.
6: A game that’s changed you the most?
Kingdom Hearts, if only because it was what I played whenever I was angry or upset and considering it came out when I was in grade eight was a lot.
7: A game you’ll never forget?
Silent Hill 2, those fucking baby/doll things will haunt my nightmares until I die.
I’m going with Kingdom Hearts with this one, because that opening song is still on my ipod.
9: A game you turn your volume off every time you play it?
Pokemon (any version), look, there is only so much shrill squeaking my ears can take and after about the first half hour I just turn the volume off and keep it that way for the rest of the game.
10: A game you’ve completely given up on?
Assassin’s Creed (just the first one). I just die. A lot. Like all the time really.
11: Hardest game you’ve played?
Also Assassin’s Creed (the first one)
12: Shortest time you’ve beaten a game in?
About 5 hours for Portal, but I spent a lot of time falling between portals to get an achievement.
13: A game you were the most excited for when it wasn’t released yet?
Dragon Age 2, my excitement lasted through my first play through at which point it swiftly evaporated under the schizophrenic nature of the plotline.
14: A game you think would be cool if it had voice acting?
Well, it would depend on the voice actors of course, but I think some of the original Zelda games would be amazing if you could find the right people.
15: Which two games do you think would make an awesome crossover?
16: Character you’ve hated most? From what game?
Kai Leng, from Mass Effect 3. That asshole killed one of my favourite characters.
17: What game do you never tell people you play?
I’m honest about all my games, though I did once kick someone out of my apartment because I told them I was playing animal crossing and they responded with ‘I thought you were a real gamer’
18: A game you wish your friends knew about?
Most of my friends play similar types of games; usually it’s them I go to for recommendations, not the other way around.
19: Which game do you think deserves a revival?
There was this really cute game for the PS2 called Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy and I wouldn’t mind seeing an HD re-release, but I’d rather have new games with new ideas and characters.
20: What was the first video game you ever played?
Pokemon Red on my first ever gaming system, a Gameboy.
21: How old were you when you first played a video game?
22: If you could immerse yourself in any game for one day, which game would it be? What would you do?
Assassins Creed 2 and I would parkour all around Italy and see the Italian renaissance in action. Seriously, I’d kill just to go to Italy, let alone in that time period. (Kill, get it, because I’d be an assassin? Shut up at least I think I’m funny.)
23: Biggest disappointment you’ve had in gaming?
When Saints Row 3 took away some of the character customization options that were available in 2, I liked looking like a thrift shop exploded onto my character.
24: Casual, Hardcore, or in the middle?
25: Be honest; have you ever used cheats (like ActionReplay or Gameshark)?
Yes, but only to get infinite rare candies by using Misingno
Why not both? But seriously, both.
27: Has there ever been a moment that has made you cry?
Here’s looking at you Mass Effect trilogy! Namely when Thane kicked the bucket, also the ending.
28: Which character’s clothes do you wish you owned the most?
My Skyrim character, any of them, if only because owning all of that armor would make cosplaying a breeze.
29: Which is more important, gameplay or story?
Both matter, because if one is total shit I’m not going to stick with the game, but usually story matters more to me.
30: A game that hasn’t been localized in your country that you think should be localized?
Dangan Ronpa, because while everything is available online I would have liked to play through the games on an actual console.
