once upon a time, when duckie was deep into travelling for surf competitions and starting to feel dangerously burned out, she got a notification on her phone. most notifications, she ignored and went about her day, but this one caught her attention. she’d been tagged in a post on an artist’s instagram. when she opened it, she was surprised to see a drawing of herself based on the adventures she routinely posted on instagram. it brought her out of that particular funk and with one quick message to the artist, kai braxton, and the rest was history. they’d been friends (at least online) ever since. “kai!” duckie shouted, sticking up her hand so he could see her through the crowd passing outside the sandbar she was currently lost in. wearing her backpack, carrying her notebook, she obviously hadn’t been expecting to see him, but it was always a welcome surprise. “kai braxton, as i live and breathe,” she started again when she was finally close enough to deposit herself into the seat next to him at the bar. “fancy seeing you here. i think you read my mind, a week like this deserves a proper send-off.”
