if the drüskelle and summoners had done their damn best to tear her apart, then nina zenik was slowly repiecing herself. bit by bit, breath by breath, she healed. in her head, she imagined her muscle fibres restitching themselves, her skin hardening - only to eventually soften. it was slow. too slow. not for the first time that evening, she bitterly resented the loss of her abilities. she had never been a healer, but she had done a passable imitation of one, when the situation was dire.
sensing that even if the battle was done, the war was not, nina gathered herself, put down her pride and shuffled over to a blonde girl hunched in the corner. she knew her by sight and name, if not in person. sigyn. saint sent, added a voice, leaning against the wall. “sigyn?” she called softly, hesitantly, framing her name as if it were a question. “do you think you could make me right as rain again?”
under ideal circumstances, nina would have preferred a ravkan trained, born-of-the-second-army healer, but beggars couldn’t be choosers.
“it’s the burns.” she explained, pointing to her chest. “and the smoke inhalation. and i suppose the ringing in my ear isn’t an ideal sign.”
