AAHH THIS IS HARD but I went with the first one that comes to mind (I really love writing dialog so I have a lot that i’m ‘proud’ of)
Steady the Sword, Chapter 11, Pawns to Queens
“Look at you,” Corvo says coolly, hands in his pockets as he walks over. “A roof? Four walls? Functioning plumbing? You've really moved up in the world, Daud.”
“Only Emily and Wyman find your sarcastic attempts at humor amusing, Attano,” Daud mumbles out. He's not looking at his newcomer; instead Daud is focused on the setup splayed out before him. It’s a checkered board, black and white, the pieces spread out as if in mid-game. Corvo frowns down at it as he approaches, throwing a questioning glance at Daud.
“Should I come back when you aren't busy, or…?” Corvo asks, gesturing at the board. Daud's eyes flick up to him, a hand on his chin while he thinks his next move out.
“Sorry. You took so long wasting my time waiting that I decided to play without you.” Corvo tenses, immediately feeling defensive; Daud notices and rolls his eyes, waving Corvo off.
“Outsider’s balls, Corvo. Relax. I didn't call you here to fight with you.”
“Not even a sparring match, then?” Corvo asks, feigning disappointment. Daud just glares at him, unamused.
Okay first off, I just. LOVE THE JOKE, okay, I love the joke of Corvo dissing Daud for living in the Flooded District for as long as he did. I just, I picked this because it always makes me laugh. And I don’t care if other people don’t laugh, that VERY FIRST LINE is legit guaranteed to make ME laugh. And I write for me, before anyone else. Secondly, this is a rare glimpse up until this point where Corvo isn’t immediately at Daud’s throat, and they actually manage some quips back and forth. They’re easing into each other, there’s a little more give and take, and then that makes the Knife’s influence by the end of the chapter more noticeable and terrifying. But really, I just love Corvo being a shit, and Daud having none of it/dishing it right back. It’s my favorite dynamic to write between them.
K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
The angstiest idea I’ve come up with never got written or published; it got thrown into the 'do not dare’ bin. [TRIGGER WARNING FOR JUST, MENTIONS OF DEATH] In the latest chapter of Blood Wolf, Daud rampages through the house and when he comes to, he finds the kid, still alive, but injured. I debated on Daud realizing that he had bitten or mutilated the child, to the point that he would literally have to euthanize a kid. I DID NOT GO THIS ROUTE. It was too traumatizing for Daud’s character early on, and honestly, too traumatizing for me, the writer. Instead, she was just harmed by collateral damage.
I also always entertain the idea of Corvo getting kidnapped or taken, and having a cult dissect his hand open where the mark is. Literally just turning him into a lab rat, and he has to be rescued from that position. This may or may not actually end up in a fic later, and it’s an idea I happily ponder over all the damn time. :3
