Featured Stitch: Moss Stitch (aka "Crunch Stitch")

Moss Stitch: AKA "Crunch Stitch" (Abbreviation: None) Moss Stitch uses slip stitches and half double crochets to create a textured crochet piece that is great for wash clothes, dish clothes, and anything else you can imagine! It's worked in the same fashion as the seed stitch, so if you've worked that before, this should be no problem!

Instructions: Chain multiple of 2+1 [?]. Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, slst in ch. HDC in next ch. *slst in next ch, HDC in next ch* across. Row 2: Ch1, turn. *slst in HDC, HDC in next slst* across. Repeat row 2 until your piece reaches desired length. Featured Stitch: Bavarian Crochet

Bavarian Crochet: (Abbreviation: None) Commonly as the "Wool Eater", the Bavarian Crochet method creates a beautiful textured "wheel" pattern. Worked in rows, this is perfect for blankets and afghans! Many believe this stitch/method was originally designed by a mother and daughter from Bavaria.

Special Notes: Bavarian Crochet uses a combination of Treble Crochet, Front Post Stitches (Front Post Treble Crochet, Front Post Half Double Crochet), and Cluster Stitches (Treble Clusters). Please make sure you are familiar with these types of stitches and methods, as well as their variations before beginning.

Abbreviations you may not be familiar with: FPHDC - Front Post Half Double Crochet

Front Post Treble Crochet Cluster Stitches: Yarn over 3 times, as you would when starting a treble crochet. Insert hook around the post of the stitch. *Yarn over, pull around post. Yarn over, pull through two loops on your hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops on your hook. DO NOT YARN OVER TO FINISH THE TREBLE. Instead, yarn over 3 times, an insert your hook around the next post.* Do this across the number of stitches indicated in the pattern. When completed, yarn over, and draw through all loops on your hook.

Instructions: Chain a multiple of 10+2.[?] Row 1: HDC in 2nd ch from hook. *Skip next 4 ch, 9TR in following ch. Skip next 4 ch, HDC in next ch* repeat across. Row 2: Ch3, turn. FPTR Cluster across next 4 st. Ch4, FPHDC in next TR. *Ch4, FPTR Cluster across next 9 st (4 TR, 1 HDC, 4 TR). Ch4, FPHDC in next TR* repeat until last 5 st. Ch 4, FPTR cluster across last 5 st. Row 3: Ch4, turn. 4TR in the first Cluster (last cluster made in row 2), HDC in the next HDC. *9TR next Cluster, HDC in next HDC* repeat until last Cluster. 5TR in last Cluster. Row 4: Ch1, turn. FPHDC in first TR (last TR of row 3). *Ch4, FPTR Cluster across next 9 st (4 TR, 1 HDC, 4 TR). Ch4, FPHDC in next TR* repeat across. Row 5: Ch 1, turn. HDC in first HDC (last FPHDC of row 4 made), *9TR in the first cluster, HDC in next HDC.* repeat across. Repeat Rows 2-5 until your piece reaches the desired length. Color changes can be made after each odd-numbered row. (1, 3, 5, etc)

Featured Stitch: Pineapple Stitch

Pineapple Stitch: (Abbreviation: None) The Pineapple Stitch, not to be confused with pineapple lace, is yet another decorative stitch. It adds texture to your crochet piece, and even makes a nice puffy border for a blanket! I'm not quite sure why it's called pineapple stitch - maybe the little puffs looked like pineapples to whoever named it? This stitch seems so familiar to me, and I not quite sure why. Maybe I've worked it before under a different name or something, I'm not sure. Enjoy!

Instructions: First Pineapple: Ch2. HDC in next st. *Yarn over, insert hook in to space between beginning chain and first HDC, yarn over, and pull through* 3 times total (7 loops on your hook). Yarn over, and draw through all loops on your hook. (1 loop left on hook.) chain 1. You have made one pineapple.

Consecutive Pineapples: [Skip next stitch to create a space. HDC in following st. In space created *Yarn over, insert hook into space, yarn over, and pull through* 3 times total (7 loops on your hook). Yarn over, and draw through all loops on your hook. (1 loop left on hook.) chain 1.]
