The next-generation Apple Watch and iPhone 15 are expected to be unveiled at Apple's product update event on September 12 Tuesday. According to rumors and early reports, the iPhone's screen will move closer to the device's edges, the dynamic island feature, which gives users more display space, and a number of modules will be standard on all devices, and the charger may replace the lightning cable with a standardized USB-C.
Apple enthusiasts around the world are eagerly awaiting the upcoming product update event on September 12th, where the tech giant is expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone and Apple Watch. With rumors and early reports circulating, it's time to delve into the exciting features and advancements we can expect from these highly anticipated devices.
iPhone 15: A Step Closer to a Borderless Display
Longtime Apple insider and leaker, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, has shared intriguing insights about the iPhone 15. Apple's design team has long fantasized about creating a device with a screen that covers the entire front, eliminating borders and cutouts for cameras and sensors. The iPhone 15 is said to move closer to this objective by removing the top screen cutout, housing the camera and facial recognition sensor. Instead, these components will be placed behind a "dynamic island" using groundbreaking technology that operates from underneath the screen.
The dynamic island feature, already present in the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro model, will reportedly be standard across all iPhone 15 models. This advancement not only enhances the aesthetics but also enables users to display interactive modules, such as quick access to maps or music controls, maximizing the available display space.
Thinner Borders and Enhanced Connectivity
According to Bloomberg, the borders of the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models will be narrower than their predecessors. With a reduction of 0.7 millimeters, the new design will provide a sleeker and more immersive user experience.
In terms of connectivity, reports from various sources, including Bloomberg, Tom's Guide, and Inc.com, suggest that Apple might replace the exclusive lightning cable technology with the widely adopted USB-C connector. This move aligns with the European Union's mandate for standardized connectors and promotes compatibility across devices. However, it's important to note that North American regulators have yet to establish similar requirements.
Material Innovation: Titanium and Periscope Lens
Apple has never shied away from pushing the boundaries of material innovation. Speculation has emerged that certain iPhone 15 models may utilize titanium instead of aluminum for their construction. Titanium offers enhanced durability, lightweight properties, and a premium look and feel, elevating the overall user experience.
Moreover, there are whispers of a camera upgrade featuring a "periscope lens." This cutting-edge technology employs a system of mirrors to create a higher-quality optical zoom. While details remain scarce, this advancement promises to revolutionize smartphone photography, enabling users to capture stunning images with exceptional clarity and zoom capabilities.

Rains back in Chennai, leave declared for schools
With rains lashing Chennai and its suburbs again, holiday has been declared for schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts.
Chennai felt sharp shower of rains due to bands of rain clouds from a depression formed in the Bay of Bengal.
Though heavy rains were predicted since Sunday morning, the bands failed to crossover the coast due to which Chennai experienced staggered showers.
But around 8 pm, the rains began in the city and within 30 minutes, 30mm rain was recorded in Nungambakkam and 16mm in Anna Nagar. Eekattuthangal, Guindy, Manapakkam, Madhuravayal, Adyar and Kodambakkam also faced a good shower.
As per weather models, the rains are likely to pick up the pace in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures will settle around 27 degrees but as the day progresses, rainy weather will take over.
The city will get intermittent showers on Monday, said area cyclone warning centre director S Balachandran. Most parts of north coastal TN and some parts of south coastal TN will get rainfall on Sunday. Isolated rainfall will occur in the interior districts.
Tamil Nadu has received 25cm of rainfall against the usual 26cm of rain. However, Chennai has recorded excess rainfall which is 68 cm of the usual 41cm. Also, the combined level of water reservoirs at Chembarambakkam, Poondi, Redhills and Cholavaram is 37% of its total capacity.

Hands-on Glaciation using “Glacier Trays”
I can’t say for sure, but I think I’m seeing a resurgence in hands-on learning and modelling in the classroom. From my perspective, I have introduced a lot more of it this year and, when I stop and reflect on it, I understand why. In this computer age of geotechnology, on-screen animations and Google Earth, it’s easy to forget that kids benefit from having those hands-on tactile learning…
