Northern Pacific Derailment, Kirkland, WA., 1966 by Track Walker Via Flickr: "Derailment in Kirkland Seattle Times- February 21, 1966 Northern Pacific Railway workers hoisted a heavy diesel engine back onto the track in Kirkland today. Five engine units and two boxcars left the rails. One of the two side-tracked cars knocked over by the derailed cars crashed into the side of the Globe Feed Co. near fifth Street South and Sixth Avenue South. About 300 feet of track was ripped up when the 24-car train hit an open switch while enroute from Sumas, Whatcom County to Auburn. No one was hurt. Rail traffic was rerouted while the wreckage was being cleared." NOTE: There are more photographs but I will look for the negatives first. Oh, and the derailment site is on 8mm film, too. I simply need to transfer the reel to DVD.

The former warehouse portion of the building is still quite actively being used by an unrelated company.
