N.W. Izzard - No Sleep ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @nw_izzard @feedbands ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Good evening VE! Sorry for the absence, I got a new cat and have been pretty busy with taking 40,000 pictures of her. I’m back with a real ripper of a blues rock/soul album by Jacksonville, FL band N.W. Izzard called - No Sleep. The album came out in 2016 but just got a proper pressing by a brand new outfit called Feedbands. Feedbands is a crowd sourced vinyl record label exclusively dedicated to surfacing independent artists. Artists submit music, and members vote on who gets pressed to vinyl each month. You can subscribe to their record of the month club and get a hand-pressed record delivered to your door. Pretty cool, huh? Fortunately, N.W. Izzard was one of the first bands featured because I’m really digging this album front to back. Listeners will immediately hear influences from @TheBlackKeys, the mellower parts of @officialjackwhite, and vocal stylings as playful and funky as G. Love without the campiness. This band has a real knack for finding a groove and making you go along for the ride and unlike a lot of similar artists in this genre, it isn’t one-note and repetitive of the same 3 chords over a backbeat for 45 minutes. There’s something real southern-fried about the musical vibes on this album that will stand out to anyone who has lived in the deep south for any amount of time. Make no mistake, this is modern blues rock, but you’re gonna hear touches of delta blues here and there and I wouldn’t be surprised if you listen to “Howlin’ Out” and feel like you’ve known that song all your life. It’s comfortably energetic, it’s familiar and unique, and it’s real hard to tell you exactly what I mean...so check it out for yourself.
