It had been far too long since Dan Vaughan’s scowling features had crossed his path. Far too long since he had been able to admire the shifting musculature hidden by a shirt and pants. Far too long since he had been able to meet one of those grumpy looks with a beaming smile. Far too long since they had last lost their tempers and started hitting each other.

Most importantly, it had been far too long since he had given Dan a hug. So when Sebastian saw his opportunity, he did not hesitate to act. Taking a few steps back to grant him more distance to build up momentum, Sebastian sprinted towards Dan’s exposed back and used both legs to pounce. Dan received exactly one word of warning.

“Dandelion!”

It was enough to get his attention, enough for him to turn around, enough for him to catch the barest glimpse of Sebastian before all of the biotic’s not-inconsiderable bodyweight slammed against Dan’s chest. Strong legs wrapped around Dan’s thighs as Sebastian’s arms wrapped around his impressively solid torso, face pressing into the much larger man’s barrel chest as Sebastian nuzzled nice and close, taking in a heavy breath through his nose as he cuddled Dan close.

“Did you miss me, Dandy?”

♟: Patching up a wound

Her fingers moved the self-bent needlethrough his skin, made a knot and cut the thread. And again and again. The twoof them didn’t talk. They had not since this had happened. Beforehand there hadbeen only controlled and professional commands, information on their movement,their sight and enemy contact. They worked well together. But Ella couldn’tstop herself from thinking that it was her fault that she was sitting here behindhim stitching up the gash in his shoulder, her hands and sleeves covered in hisblood.

She had brought them here. Not actively,but this case was so personal for him, that she had agreed on him insisting tocoma along. And after all she was a highly trained soldier, way better trainedthan her. She was just talented.

When she thought about this; how it hadbeen almost fun to fight alongside him, work with him and forget all theirquarrels for the time being, she could ignore that is was his blood on herhands and had to almost smile. It had felt natural; yeah they both weresoldiers, both trained and skilled and prepared for situations like this whenyou have to work together with people you never met before. And yet it had beendifferent. Like something had clicked that hadn’t been there before.

“I’m done,” she announced, when the lastknot had been placed. “I’d cover it with something, but… we’re a bit short onmedical supplies.” Which was still an overstatement. They literally had toleave their medical supplies behind a day ago, when the car had been targetedby an AT4 rocket-launcher, which had of course ended in no supplies at allexcept what they were carrying, while running for cover.

Since then they had survived severalassaults and ambushes. The last one just by a hair’s breadth. And with Danending up injured because he had pushed them both out of the line of fire. He eventuallyhad covered her with his body from the explosion that had followed. So she was mostlyunscathed while he had been bleeding badly. Gladly there had been a bag of hemostaticin her backpack – otherwise… well, she’d rather not think about it.

She got up and walked over to the smallstream they had stopped by and cleaned her hands. She clenched her jaws tightlyas she saw his blood being cleaned off her hands and flowing down into thewater. They had to get out of here. Army or not in this situation he wascivilian and she had the responsibility. And right now it weighed heavily.
