UR SOULMATE SURE IS LUCKY. SHE MUST LOVE U VERY VERY MUCH AND CONSIDERS U HER MOST CHERISHED PERSON IN LIFE TOO not that i would know. just a guess ;)
I beg to differ. I would say that I’m the lucky one. I don’t deserve her, because she puts up with a lot of my grievances that I really don’t share with anyone else. But then I make up for it in other ways. (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و
for the not us meme. 1. 4. 7. 14. 16. 20. 25. have fun answering !! have a great day!
Thank you for asking!!! :o This is probably going to be long again, so under the cut again!I already answered 14, so I’ll leave that one out!
1. favourite place in your country?I love the mountains. So, Tirol and Salzburg are pretty cool places with lots and lots of mountains and forests and rivers and everything. It’s really beautiful :)I also like our “cities” (they are really small), I have a soft spot for Graz and Bregenz.
Though I guess my absolute favourite place is on top of any mountain, looking down as the world you know seems so small and insignificant.… I really should go hiking more often.
4. favourite dish specific for your country? It’s a bit hard to say “specific” for this country. The area around the alps (especially Austria, southern Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) shares a lot, especially when it comes to food. Generally our cousine is very rich and hearty, often with lots of herbs. I personally love Spatzln (Spätzle), which is a type of … egg noodles, I guess? With everything, cheese or ham, or just as a side dish, they’re always really tasty! Also, I really like Kaspressknödel, which are cheese dumplings usually in soup. If you like sweet things you should try a Kaiserschmarrn, which is … hard to describe. Imagine a really, really REALLY fluffy and thick pancake, that is torn to pieces and served with either apple sauce or mountain cranberries. Speaking of pancakes, I also love Palatschinken, which is a really thin pancake (traditionally with apricot jam, but I prefer Nutella inside). It’s pretty similar to a crêpe, but made in a pan. Aaaand the last form of pancakes I love is Fritattensuppe, which is unsweetened Palatschinken cut in slices and put in a clear soup. Very tasty!
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?Hmm… the official language in Austria is German. But there’s hundreds of dialects around. I live in a part with lots of mountains and basically every valley has their own way of speaking, so I’m going to answer this question for the dialect I’m speaking.
Tschurtschen/Kusen; the cones of trees. I used to collect them when I was taking a walk with my grandmas as a child. The funny thing was, one of my grandmas called them Tschurtschen and my other grandma would call them Kusen, even though they barely lived 10 km apart. The actual German word is Zapfen, by the way.
Grantig; angry. Can be an emotional state or a general tendency. Some people are just always grantig. So maybe it’s a bit of a cross between angry and grumpy?
Schmunzeln; this one is actually a normal German word. It describes a form of smiling, that I’m missing in English. It’s a reaction to something someone else has said or done, usually something stupid or naive or oblivious, which the one smiling finds endearing.
16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?Well … there is the stereotype that we Austrians are “g’mietlig/gemütlich”. This word doesn’t really have an English equivalent to it, but it’s something like being relaxed, laid back, pleasant, good-natured (could also mean something like comfortable if you’re talking about a place). I think, in comparison and in a collective view, this might be true. I see this on Anime Conventions (which in the German language area are almost exclusively organized by fans for fans and have pretty much nothing to do with something like Comic Con), which tend to have a cozier, more familiar atmosphere in Austria, compared to Germany.Don’t get me wrong, I also find German cons really nice and fun, but I feel like they are a bit more competitive in nature. So maybe, there is some truth to this stereotype.
The stereotype that I hate the most is the “Austrians are on their skis 24/7, they even go to school on their skis”. Nope. Noooope. First of all, skiing is way too expensive. One day of skiing easily costs 30 to 50€. Second, not even all of Austria has mountains, so uh, tough luck for them I guess? And third, believe it or not, some people just don’t like it. (I personally am a snowboarder, not a skier. Still, I haven’t been snowboarding in years.)
Which brings me to Question…20. which sport is The Sport in your country?Skiing. Any and all forms of skiing. … Well, any form on snow, anyway.
25. would you like to come from another place, be born in another country?Hmmm… this is a hard question. There were times in my past, where I wished I was born in Japan instead of here, but that was before I realized that I don’t really agree with a lot over there.I guess, in general I can reply with a “no”. I don’t really like our politics (but at least the courts have got us covered, especially when it comes to lgbt+ rights) and I can’t say I care for the constant guilt tripping about Austria’s national socialist past (not that I don’t think it’s important to inform people, but honestly, they make you feel like it was YOU PERSONALLY who’s to blame for everything that happened) But I love our nature, the mountains. And our health and social systems are really good. I mean, I pretty much get paid for going to university, I definitely won’t complain about that. There are things that could be improved, but in general, I’d say I’m good with being here.
for that not from the US meme! 1. 4. 7. 10. 23. hope you're having a great day!!! :D
hey~ thank you so much for asking <3
let’s go then - germany edition!
1. favourite place in your country?
we have many gorgeous places here, but i really don’t travel that much inside of germany. so i have to stay local - which is not that big of a deal. though my place where I live is very rural, we have many nice places. the most popular one (and really pretty) is called Saarschleife. Saar is the name of the river that flows here, “Schleife” means loop. there’s a viewpoint right in the hills, and you have a really nice view from up there right at the Saarschleife.
4. favourite dish specific for your country?
Schwenker - it’s a dish specific to the region where i live. it’s pork neck steak seasoned in a specific way, usually “grilled” over open fire on a special construction (also called Schwenker - here have a look). you really don’t get it outside of the Saarland (that’s the german federal state where i live - so land where the saar flows...). we usually eat it in summer (but on occasion even in the snow), sometimes with salads and sometimes just the Schwenker in a bun, sitting around the fire. It’s a lifestyle, really.
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?
uh... as you may know, we here in germany are famous for just making up words as we need them - and words describing things you need a whole sentence for in english. since i really don’t have any favourite words, i just choose 3 that i think are really nice words to use:
Fremdschämen - second hand embarrassment
Kopfkino - (head-cinema) thinking about how sth may go, the imagination running wild
Flemm - (specific to the Saarland region) being slightly depressed and not in the mood (I don’t want to go out i have the “Flemm”)
10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language?
i usually don’t swear that much, but i really use the word “Arsch” (ass) a lot - and sometimes i create new words with that in it (like... let’s say i drop toothpaste on my clothes, i totally would say “ass-paste” or sth like that)
23. which alcoholic beverage is the favoured one in your country?
beer. i think we place 3rd or sth in europe sorted by consumption. we also drink wine and schnaps, but beer is by far the most favoured. I mean, we have the Oktoberfest, if you want to call your beverage beer you have to brew it a specific way (Reinheitsgebot) and people here sometimes talk about how the beer tastes like other people talk about wine.
thank you again for asking. it was fun thinking about those things.
