I'm not sure if this is a stupid question, and maybe you'll never get this problem, but what would you do at an Irish Dance competition in which men and women are competing separately ?
who knows tbh
this is one of the things where i just... don’t know the answer, because back when i competed when i was 14/15 i didn’t ID as non-binary and now that i do i’m not in a position to be competing yet anyway so i’m not entirely sure how i’d handle it
i think i’d probably have to compete in the women’s competition because legally i’m female. even if in some ways i present more masculine, i don’t pass as a guy and people would think i was trying to have easier competitions (because men’s ones are generally smaller with way fewer competitors) by competing in the men’s. plus, i’m short and stocky and would probably be at a disadvantage against men, who would generally speaking be taller and stronger.
the real question is: would i have to wear a dress or could i get away with a more masculine outfit, like a modified version of the men’s costumes? i don’t know but would like to. i tried to read through all the CLRG costume rules but while they’re full of details about fabrics and necklines they lack the basics like whether i’d be allowed to wear trousers or not. it’s very annoying.
(if anyone knows / has access to documentation on the matter, point me towards it please!)
anyway the answer is that i don’t really know, but it’s not a stupid question because i’ve been asking myself the same thing since the day i decided i was going to go back to irish dance!
