Interlude 2 - Journal
Day six: The Underpassages are crawling with krojjat, tanuri, and other vermin. Woke up today to find our food stores raided despite our best efforts to protect them. We’re going to have to keep a watch from now on. That or start eating the critters, perish the thought.
Day ten: I miss the sun. And the moon. The sky in general. We’ve been underground for a week and a half, but it feels like an eternity. Jjema insists we keep going forward. Whatever that Venichi thinks is down here, I doubt we’ll find it before the food runs out.
Day eleven: Found an Ancient city at last! Karn decided we make camp early just inside the gate. Etra brought out some extra food she was hiding to celebrate; she must’ve been keeping a special eye on it to keep the bugs off. Maybe we’ll find something here after all.
Day thirteen: Met a weird creature deeper in the city, calls himself Minnis. Managed to find some food among his stuff that wasn’t moldy or nibbled on; traded it for some junk. We should have enough to get back on, now.
Day thirteen, addendum: We found something. Ancient technology. Jjema says her translation of the notes suggests it’s some kind of communicator. Good thing, too; we’ve all seen something in the dark while on watch, something watching us. It’s about time we left. Last few expeditions have been telling tales of eyes in the dark, and drums in the deep. I’ll be glad to be out of these tunnels, feel the ocean breeze again.
