What I say, vs what I mean.

I say, all the time, that I hate people.

And it's true. I used up all the hate I had before the age of 30. But. What's left, I have for 'people'. En masse.

On an individual level, though? You? One on one? That's where the love comes in. You, I love. The individual. Even if we never meet and I don't actually know you exist. I know the idea of you. I know you're out there.

But when you let what makes you 'you' become lost in a morass ...

When I can't tell one from the next ...

Maybe it's the autism. Maybe it's the facial aphasia. Maybe it's the introversion.

I don't know. I just hate people. But I love you.

Does that make sense?

Yeah, this was a debate I was having with someone in a dream, why do you ask? No, I don't know what they looked like but they had more limbs than I do and their voice was like a choir.

There have been updates for the "Welcome to the Lans" series (YAY!!!!!) and "Welcome to the Nies" series (DOUBLE YAY!!!!!!!!!). Are there any updates planned for the "You're Worth Everything" series?

Thank you for all the awesome stories. They fill my little kitty heart with glee.

Well, planned is a very broad word. I do plan to continue that. I do have a document with around 5 sentences on my desktop. I do think regularly about what could happen in the next part (because if you think I have plans for that you're mistaken).

But it doesn't feel ready to write yet.

I agree about Kate and Curran. The books are excellent and I love the series but to keep going with those two ... they deserve a break!! I want to see Julie's adventures with Psycho!Auntie (I give it two chapters before Derek shows up) and I really want the other two Iron Covenant books. I wouldn't mind another Andrea and Raphael book or one for Asciano. I want to punt Jim into a volcano but Dali's POV is always interesting.

your feels for Jim are my feels for Raphael lol

and yes! I’m dying for the next two Iron books!! and I hope we really get a book about Roman!

MDZS Bingo - Third Fill! - Run

Nie Mingjue put on his road trip playlist and settled in for a drive.

“Where are we going?” Jiang Cheng asked, nodding approval at the first notes of ‘Running Down a Dream’ by Tom Petty.

Nie Mingjue flashed him a grin. “You trust me, remember?”

The younger man settled into his own seat and gave Nie Mingjue a look. “If this is where you reveal you’re a serial killer and you think I’m an easy mark, let me just warn you about my jiejie,” he smirked. “If something happens to me, they’ll never find your body.”

Nie Mingjue scoffed. “They’ll never find my body because A-Sang will drag my carcass out to my cousin’s farm and feed it to the pigs. Your sister will have to get in line.”

Jiang Cheng gave a surprised laugh and grinned at Nie Mingjue, clearly not believing him. “Okay, unlikely, but sure. Huaisang worships you.”

“Oh, I assure you, he’s planning revenge on me if I hurt you. For example, he bought this shirt for me. Do you like it?”

“Mmm,” Jiang Cheng gave Nie Mingjue a slow once over. He licked his lips. “It looks really good on you.”

“It does, thank you.” The elder Nie flashed his dimples in a heart-stopping smile. “My sweet baby brother has good taste. When he gave it to me, he said this was the shirt he was going to bury me in if I upset you. He said it all sweet, too, the brat.”

Jiang Cheng laughed again, turning to look out the window, as if Nie Mingjue couldn’t see his smiling reflection in the window or the blush on the back of his neck. Nie Mingjue's heart gave a slow thump at this shy, beautiful, brash boy and his total inability to see his own worth.

“So how are classes going?”

“Really good, actually. Mom stopped Dad from trying to shut me out of my financial aid. He’d already given Wei Wuxian my old car so she was already mad. When the financial aid office told him it was impossible to revoke my aid package since he hadn’t paid a dime towards my education and my scholarship had already been disbursed. Once I knew the college was on my side, everything seemed so much easier,” Jiang Cheng gave Nie Mingjue a sad smile. “My grades are already better now that I don’t have anyone to please but myself.”

Nie Mingjue nodded, consciously making an effort not to tear the steering wheel off or turn the car around so he could find Jiang Fengmian and chase him down. “It sucks that this is what it took but I’m really happy you’re doing better. You’re really smart and you deserve to be able to explore that without your parents ruining it for you.”

Jiang Cheng blushed again and coughed, embarrassed. “Thanks. How did your last meeting go? Are you still trying to buy out Mr. Yao? I saw in the news his stock has dropped significantly.”

“You sure you want to talk about my work?” Nie Mingjue glanced at him quickly, eyebrow raised, to let him know he saw through this conversation switch.

“Yeah, of course. It’s important to you and you’re a great CEO. Nie Fortress Incorporated has one of the highest approval ratings in the entire industry. And the launch of your latest generator is soon, right? Solar, electric, and fossil fuel compatible?”

Nie Mingjue looked at Jiang Cheng for just an instant. The younger man looked relaxed, happy. He appeared to be genuinely interested. “All right. We’ll talk shop. But let me know if I get too annoying. Huaisang hates it when I go on.”

“It’s fascinating. And your commitment to being carbon neutral in the next three years is impressive,” Jiang Cheng countered.

“Well the major problem with that hasn’t even been production but transportation, which I suppose is pretty common. But the specific snag we were running into had a pretty ingenious fix,” Nie Mingjue admitted.

"I want to hear all about it.”

So Nie Mingjue explained the issue and the solution. Jiang Cheng asked insightful and intelligent questions. Nie Mingjue debated on proposing marriage right then and there but decided it was a little too early for that so he just answered the questions and then asked about Jiang Cheng’s course changes since he wasn’t under his parents’ thumb.

The hour and a half passed quickly.

Nie Mingjue coaxed Jiang Cheng into closing his eyes for one part while he stopped and picked up the order Huaisang had placed for him. Then it was another twenty minutes before he pulled into a gravel parking lot.

He parked and came around to Jiang Cheng’s side of the car, helping him get out. He walked him to the picnic table.

“Stand right here," he ordered, smug with the scene he was setting. "Don't move, don’t peek. I’m going to get the other part of the surprise from the car. It will be less than three minutes.”

“If this is a prank …,” Jiang Cheng trailed off, his hands balling into fists as he tried to hide his anxiety.

Nie Mingjue couldn’t help but put his palm on Jiang Cheng’s cheek. The younger man was trying so hard to keep his anxiety leashed. Nie Mingjue knew he was asking a lot, given who Jiang Cheng’s brother was. ”I promise, it is only meant to be a happy surprise. Nothing to scare or embarrass or make you uncomfortable. Just me spoiling my handsome boyfriend and sharing one of my favorite spots.”

Jiang Cheng took a deep, shuddering breath and leaned into Nie Mingjue’s touch. “I trust you, Ming-ge,” he said softly. “Sorry for being a baby.”

Nie Mingjue grinned, leaning closer. “That’s fine. So long as you're my baby.”

The young Jiang’s face blushed a brilliant crimson in the cool air and Nie Mingjue chuckled, impressed that his boyfriend’s eyes stayed closed. He stroked his adorable boyfriend’s cheek, fighting down a possessive, overwhelmingly protective urge. This sweet man, this wounded boy made Nie Mingjue want to take him home and keep him safe always. Keep him smiling, always.

Jiang Cheng’s face was scrunched up with tension but he was doing his best to keep his face smooth. Nie Mingjue wanted to kiss him until all his tension melted away. To whisper assurances until Jiang Cheng believed them and stopped being afraid of every kind gesture. Instead he hurried to set up the rest of the surprise. Nie Mingjue had excellent self-control. Damnit.

It did indeed take less than three minutes for Nie Mingjue to fetch the basket he’d picked up earlier and arrange the picnic table with cloth, food, and lanterns. He owed his baby brother for thinking ahead. Sunset came early to this little pocket of space in the mountains.

He surveyed his work, adjusting the napkins and silverware a final time. The fluffy clouds that had moved in as they drove now shifted so that sunlight hit the surface of the small lake. Perfection.

“Open your eyes, A-Cheng,” he said, as he came to stand at Jiang Cheng’s side. He wanted to watch the younger man's face.

And it was worth it, worth everything, to see Jiang Cheng’s face go from wary tension to bewilderment to delight. Jiang Cheng turned from the sun-lit lake to look at him with wide eyes. Nie Mingjue couldn’t help a chuckle as he stepped aside and showed Jiang Cheng the fancy set up on the picnic table. That they had the whole small park to themselves.

It was a beautiful spot, a placid mountain lake surrounded by forest on the end that butted up against the next rise of rock and grassy meadow on the flat side. A rest-stop of sorts held two picnic tables beneath fragrantly blooming wisteria trees. Nie Mingjue had snapped a few quick pictures for Nie Huaisang’s approval but even he could see the beauty and romance of the situation.

So could Jiang Cheng. The younger man threw himself into Nie Mingjue’s arms, hugging him tightly. Nie Mingjue wrapped his arms around him and swayed. This was heaven.
