i see your "i dislike characters who talk like theyve been in therapy its more fun when they dont know whats going on" but i raise you "theyve been in therapy for a decade and theyve read all the scholarly articles on the topic they know exactly whats wrong with them and yet they cant logic and reason and rationalise their way out of their mental illness and its driving them insane because they shouldve gotten better years ago and they feel like theyre on square one"
dehumanization tropes i love
-not allowed on furniture. remain standing or kneel on the floor, no sitting
-not allowed to make eye contact
-being silenced immediately every time they try to speak
-casual manhandling, being dragged alone because they’re not trusted to move by themselves
-casual, nonconsensual touch. randomly pulling them closer, absently playing with hair, manually adjusting their posture
-giving orders without explanation
-giving orders they know are arbitrary, just to exercise power
-talking about them like they aren’t even in the room
-authorizing other people to monitor and control them
-being kept in restraints 24/7, with movement restricted even further in their downtime
-degrading their natural behaviors and reflexes. stare is creepy, smile is ugly, flinching is disrespectful, etc…
-putting down their hobbies/interests
-ascribing ill intent to all their actions and assuming the worst from them
always chewing on characters who would Never do anything as vulnerable as admit what happened but the signs are all there. stark, shiny scars they brush off concern for. pains that crop up at strange times. obsessive habits they refuse to break and aversions they won’t explain. bags under their eyes and a thin face, no matter how competent they are at whatever task is set before them. a worn cog still turns. even if everyone can see the damage, it doesn’t need to draw attention. really.
Characters who hate who they once were. Characters who are disgusted by who they once were. Characters who absolutely despise who they once were.
Characters who miss who they once were. Characters who long for who they once were. Characters who would give anything to be who they once were again.
Obsessed with the idea of an already wounded/exhausted character going "I... can take it." Like no bish you can't, but love enthusiasm and the horrified looks of your team.
I'm a BIG fan of low ranking characters suddenly thrust into a position of authority they're unprepared for. a young princess, too far down the line of succession to merit any training, forced onto the throne when her whole family dies in one attack. a lowly technician on a team who finds themself the defacto leader when a mission goes wrong and every single person above them is captured or killed. a group of strangers comes together for survival, and the only person with any assertiveness gets assigned a leadership role, even though they have no special skills. do these characters rise to the challenge and lead their respective groups to victory? do they crash and burn under the pressure so hard no one ever trusts them again? do they massively restructure their whole society because any system that puts them in charge can't be doing things right?
no when i say intimacy i mean one of us is bleeding out and the other is putting their entire body weight behind their hands to stop it
