You know you're getting tired of playing a family when you start dreading their weekends. Leisure Day fell on a Saturday, and I had no trouble keeping Velma & Co. occupied thanks to the pool party, but then it was Sunday. Blergh.
Velma and Undine mostly mind themselves--if I put Velma to work on a novel and Undine to work on a sculpture, they'll work their little hearts out for hours.
Undine is getting good at the sculpting. She is already at level 6 in it. Not bad for a skill that has no associated tabcast.
Felix the Charismatic Schmoozer Party Animal, however, is another matter. If I let him just wander, he wanders straight over to the bar and drinks innumerable quick drinks.
I decided to blow off his party-themed wishes (you just partied yesterday, dude!) and sent him to the library to pursue his tenth Charisma point.
Success! He's already Mayor, which is level 8 in Politics, so Leader of the Free World is actually within striking distance.
Aurora Skies maids Felix Jonatan and Aina Ahere. My sims rarely get to wear beanies or any hats for that matter, so I let Felix keep his. At first I wasn’t sure what to do with Aina, her face was a bit like a potato and not that interesting really. No offense to any potatoes though! It took me few attempts at CAS before I was happy with her looks and I think she might be my new favourite now!
At least once a Sim week, the burglar tries it. She has never made it into the house but again, it isn't for lack of trying.
Wait, but something's different this time?
The officer arrived in her police uniform, but changed into her swimsuit before confronting the burglar. 🙄 I think I've just remembered why I so seldom build pools for my Sims. Everyone thinks they're entitled to go for a swim.
Well, that's different. The usual order of things is:
Burglar approaches along the right side of the house from the back.
The alarm goes off when she nears the front door.
Burglar freaks out for a few seconds.
Cop arrives.
Burglar calmly walks past the cop, summons her car, and drives away.
I have no Sims with the Heavy Sleeper trait in this house (talk about a trait I'm almost addicted to--I love having Sims who don't wake up for this nonsense), so they all got up and wanted something to eat... at three in the morning. Sure, fine. The Leisure Day leftovers aren't going to eat themselves.
Hey!!! Velma's cleaning up her plate! 😍
--then the cop came in to talk to Velma, so Velma put the plate back on the table.
Honestly, it's comforting to know some things never change.
For Leisure Day, I got Velma & family a swimming pool and a hot tub, so they could throw a pool party. Their backyard is on the tiny side, so I didn't do any fancy decking around it or anything like that. Just, whatever your expectations may be here? Lower them.
The stupid cop who never, ever apprehends Velma's burglar invited herself. The other hat-wearer here is their mailperson.
Felix's boss, Ericka Berge. They're best friends. Ericka has sent several letters indicating she'd be up for more than that, but too bad, granny, he's taken.
The house has done a 180 from "the mail is full of letters and presents from would-be suitors for Velma," to, well, this.
Her own mother!
Maybe Vivienne isn't really a man-stealer, but her daughter has all the makings of one.
Back to the party! This guy who looks familiar also invited himself. I don't think either Velma or Felix has ever met him. EA Story Progression must be tired of him not having any friends. Come on in and make yourself at home then, Gunnar.
As the guests said their goodbyes, Velma and Felix relaxed in the hot tub.
Undine spent most of the party working on her sculpting--she had wishes to! It's not that I'm mean. (Much.) She ended the day with her first-ever painting, the classic pink monster one.
In four generations of this goofy family, I think this has been my most successful Leisure Day ever. Usually they're kind of disasters, to be out-disastered only by Snowflake Day. Great job, guys.
Felix's Adult birthday took place the night after Velma's. He combined it with a fundraising party he hosted at the Port-a-Party Warehouse, neatly sidestepped a midlife crisis, closed the place down, and raised over 34,000 Simoleans for his campaign.
Of course he went home exhausted and stumbled through work the next day, but that's the mark of a successful night out, isn't it?
I know what they say; not Vivienne, not Violet, but some of my family and, sadly, most of my friends.
They say, "It's about time--she wasn't getting any younger."
They say, "I heard she and Marco had a fight recently... you know what they say about being on the rebound."
They say, "I didn't think she was the type to go out with a domestic, let alone marry one."
They say, "It does get hard to face living alone as you age."
They say, "I guess that's one maid who played his cards right!"
They say, "You can't really blame her for settling. What else could she do, with the reputation she has?"
They say all of that and more, but as I have always done throughout my life, I don't worry about what people say.
Let them talk, while Felix and I give thanks that we have such fulfilling lives, such fascinating lives, that we are never bored enough to critique any others.
Velma's Adult birthday arrived! I started out letting her do whatever she wanted to, and guess what that was.
Then, she wanted to boast to Undine about broom-riding. 🙄 Undine's a witch too, Velma--I assure you she will not be impressed.
This earned Velma a ticket upstairs to go back to work on her latest mystery, Where's Wendalyn?
Marco called in the middle of this, and he and Velma had a little heart-to-heart about how they are never, ever, ever getting back together. Or together for the first time, even. You get the idea... and with any luck now, so does Marco.
I tried to throw Velma a birthday party, but some jackass coworker of Felix's scheduled a house party at a conflicting time. Even though Felix declined that invitation, it somehow canceled the party I had scheduled for Velma. 😡 Infuriating!
Instead, the family had a nice dinner together, followed of course by cake and The Event.
(But before we get to that, please notice that Undine is definitely her mother's daughter.)
Thankfully, she didn't age into a midlife crisis. She really would have had some nerve doing so--she's done everything and everyone she's ever wanted to do in life. (Well, everything except move back to Elmira City.)
Felix's birthday should be in the next day or two; with any luck he'll dodge the same bullet. Fingers crossed.
I am enjoying their autonomous displays of affection--it reminds me of @oasislandingresident 's Hank and Karen.
I am less pleased that Felix goes to his job as a Ballot Counter dressed in his maid uniform. I should probably remove that outfit. No way that shirt is meeting city hall's dress code.
