“But you saved me! As difficult and as frustrating as it’s been sometimes, your goddamn strict rationalism and science have saved me a thousand times over. You kept me honest. You made me a whole person. I owe you everything Scully, and you owe me nothing.”
Ooo, can you do Forced to Watch for BTHB? Characters are your choice?
Ohhh, Bleu, yes please!
I have a fic I've had floating in my head forever about this.
Once more, i'mma outline my ideas and put this on my writing docket:
Feat. The Agency's Tibenoch and Shae
Tibs and Shae are on a portal-and-veil training run. They get captured by the Inquest (yes, this is reverting straight to GW2 stuff because it's an idea that's been in my head forever).
Tibs is targeted, but they take Shae because they know she's his apprentice.
Tibs is tied down, forced to watch Shae be tortured (and she holds her own for a while, she's a trooper, but the Inquest is cruel) as he's peppered with questions about vital interactions.
Shae nearly dies, and Tibs breaks down and feeds some information to their whumpers (gotta figure out how to make it something "vital" enough that they'll buy it, but not enough to seriously endanger the Agency's operations).
Satisfied, they shove bags over both agents' heads and drive them out into the wilderness before dumping them.
Tibs, relatively uninjured, returns to base.
This is gonna be fun.
It also leads to a bunch of awesome follow up fics where Tibs deals with
Guilt and self-loathing about how he was unhurt and Shae almost died
Fear that Shae won't like him or trust him
Punishment from the Commander for leaking information (though she has a bit of a caretaker moment where she thanks and commends him for saving Shae)
Punishment from Lylen for the same and for endangering Shae
Punishment from the Doc for endangering Shae, but also a moment of understanding because she knows what he had to do.
Comfort from Shae
Comfort from Marek, but Marek still whumps Tibs a bit because he was so afraid for the sprout. But when Tibs breaks down about his own fears and his own guilt, Marek switches to caretaker mode.
And from the Sprout:
Her fear and recovery
Her pride at lasting so long, and the reactions her various caretakers have to that
Her confusion about why Tibs feels bad. She knows he did what he had to, he still saved her, and she thought he'd be proud of her for lasting so long. But also some blame and anger - did she not sign up for this? She knows she's young and cute, but she signed up to fight.
Her fury with Lylen, the Commander and the Doc for whumping Tibs despite all he's been through.
Her own self-loathing and excessive training to "never be caught again".
Her nightmares and unexpected flashbacks or mild PTSD from the kidnapping.
Dear lord it's turned into a series...
Anything else you'd like to see? I'll try to incorporate specific things if you let me know what you like. :3
It was a cold, thin ten o'clock by the time they were down the mountain, with stars pinprick-keen above the dark treetops and a white moon rising. They'd traded off carrying Meg - Dave's spare jacket now bundled around her - as she shivered and stared and didn't speak, her eyelids flicking open and shut without recognition beneath them.
"We should take her to the hospital,” Alec was saying. “She's - look at her, she's a mess."
They’d paused to assess Meg’s condition as soon as they could; the only injuries they could find in a cursory check were strange, knotted specks of scar tissue along her arms and down her back, like random pockmarks or cruelly large needle-tips. And the bruises, of course, everywhere: face and shoulders and knees and shins, hints of unpleasantness as yet unknown.
Ari had Meg clinging loosely to her back now, head a limp weight on her shoulder, arms trailing. “I don’t know if we need to right now,” she said. “She isn’t hurt. She’s just ... not really there.” That felt terrible to say, but Meg didn’t even flinch, the quick shallow rhythm of her breathing continuing unchanged against Ari’s back. “And if they want her to stay at the hospital, they wouldn’t let us be there with her. When she... wakes up ... she’ll want to have us around.”
That was the real part that she couldn’t bear the thought of - going home and leaving Meg somewhere behind them, alone. And Meg coming clear later and not even knowing where she was, maybe, or whether she’d ever gotten free at all...
Maybe Dave and Alec couldn’t bear the thought either, because nobody contradicted her.
The gravel parking lot was empty except for Alec’s car. They piled in, lifting Meg into the back seat, Ari taking middle to watch over her and buckle the seatbelt over her slumped form.
“So. Where?” Alec drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, eyes dark in the harsh moonlight.
It was Dave who answered this time, through a yawn. “Home. For now, anyway.”
Home meant the little two-floor cottage grafted on behind the workshop, with the moth-flecked porch light flickering as they climbed the stairs, the rattling door locks and the three cats waiting unblinking in the entryway. They’d been fed already, but seemed to hope they could convince the humans otherwise.
Somewhere during the drive back, Meg’s fingers had tightened around Ari’s hand, an unbreakable grasp with a strength like desperation or death in it. It wasn’t until Ari laid her down on the living room sofa and fumbled the light on that her grip loosened suddenly, eyelashes fluttering again as she blinked.
“Ari?” Hardly a voice, just a breathy whisper with the hint of a word on it.
“Meggie!” Ari’s throat tightened with abrupt relief.
“What - where am I?” Meg spoke more clearly now, but no less quietly.
“You’re safe, you’re home, we’ve got you.” That was Alec, kneeling down next to the sofa. “How do you - “
“I can’t be. Kingston wouldn’t have let me go, not like that. Not with factor levels like mine.” Meg tried to elbow herself into a sitting position, but only managed to get her head against the arm of the sofa. Her eyes were going distant again. “It’s not real, it’s not real.”
Ari bit her lip. “No, it is real.” She tried to push as much warmth, as much sincerity, into her voice as she could. “We’ve got you.”
“How do you feel?” Alec went on. “Are you hungry or anything, or do you just want to rest?”
For a moment Meg didn’t answer, her eyes flicking from Alec’s to Dave’s to Ari’s faces. She was shivering again, the hair standing up on her bruised wrists. Then all at once she began to cry, squeezing her eyes shut, tears streaking shiny down her cheeks as her breathing quickened still further.
“I didn’t - I don’t - “ she gasped between sobs, then “if it’s real, please be careful, be careful. I’ve missed my dose that keeps it back, it’s not safe, be careful - ”
“Careful?” Dave and Ari spoke at once, Alec adding, “of what?”
“Of - of...”
Her voice trailed off, and her body stiffened, fingers splaying out, her eyes snapping open within their shadowed sockets. Ari startled, putting a hand out, feeling Meg’s heartbeat racing behind her bony ribs. “Meggie, what - “
Two things happened in the same moment then.
Every light in the house went out with a sudden audible pop, and the smell of smoke in the air. And a momentary freezing pain went through Ari’s body, starting at her hand and tearing along through her, holding her in place for an eternal awful moment before letting her fall loosely to the floor.
Somewhere, one of the cats started yowling.
Alec got his cell phone flashlight turned on just in time for Meg, wide-eyed in the dimness, to give a single ghastly grin at the three of them.
“That,” she said. “What they made me.”
She laughed, and the laughter turned quickly into coughing, blood trickling in dark streams from her nose and spraying across her shirt and the sofa pillows with each wracking cough. “I didn’t - I thought - oh, that was good, that was strong - Kingston’s going to be - so disappointed - just when she gave me away and I - and I - “
Ari picked herself up off the living room floor, joints aching, heart pounding, head spinning.
“She’ll never know,” she said, and she barely recognized the cold sound of her own voice, part and parcel of the mask she’d been making for herself all night. “And even if she does, a bargain is a bargain. We’ve got you back.”
Whether Meg leaned forward then, or whether Ari tugged her off-balance just enough for her to fall, it was hard to tell. But the next moment Ari was sitting on the edge of the sofa with Meg wrapped in her arms, Meg’s blood and Meg’s tears soaking her sweater, and when she pressed her face into the hollow between Meg’s shoulder and throat she didn’t flinch for an instant.
“Shhh, shh, Meggie,” she whispered, half under her breath, “we’re here, you’re home, it’s fine.”
It wasn’t, not really. But for now it was, for this moment it was, while Dave tried to turn the lights back on and whatever cat was complaining tried to sort itself out, while Meg shivered against her after the impossible and dreadful change that had come. It was fine for right then, and they’d deal with the rest later.
One of the youngest apprentice agents in the Agency. A total cinnamon roll.
Name: Agent Shae (no last name, also called “Sprout”)
22, Human (originally Sylvari from GW2)
Female, she/her, straight/heteroflexible (Shae hasn’t really felt attracted to women, but if she found herself attracted to one, she wouldn’t say no to it)
Whumpee, occasional caretaker
A total female cinnamon roll, Shae is young, optimistic, enthusiastic, and over-eager. You can imagine this gets her into a lot of trouble. With a tendency to overestimate her abilities and underestimate the consequences, she finds herself in bad scenarios often.
Though she is making great strides in her career as an agent, Shae has a lot of work to do. She has a bit of a competitive streak in her that she is still learning to temper, and while she’s usually a darling, she can lose her temper quickly.
Has a tendency to be braver than she needs to, and still struggles with feeling guilty for things that aren’t within her control. It’s something almost all the rest of the team is trying to break her out of – because it’s going to get her killed one day if she doesn’t.
Relationships
Tibs: “Old Man”, as Shae calls him, is her mentor, teacher, training officer, superior, and father figure. Shae’s dad is a great guy, but she can’t joke with him with the same ease that she jokes with Tibs. She can flirt with him knowing he won’t be a creep, poke at him, confide in him, and be really who she is around him. Shae is often whumped alongside Tibs – usually as a tool to get him to do something, but sometimes the scenario is flipped. Shae commonly caretakes for Tibs in a way as well. Rarely, she may be his whumper – but never intentionally.
Dr. Fainleaf: Shae adores Kieran. If ever her plans to be a Transport and Infiltration Specialist don’t pan out, she hopes to become a medic for the Doc. Shae tries desperately not to disappoint Dr. Fainleaf, and takes criticism from the doc harshly. Shae has a bit of a platonic crush on the doc and does admittedly idolize her. Kieran is usually a caretaker, but sometimes a whumper to Shae.
Commander: Shae respects, fears, and admires the Commander. She sort of wants to be like the Commander, but is beginning to realize she can’t even pretend to be nearly that stoic or serious. The Commander is often Shae’s emotionally-detached caretaker, and occasional whumper.
Lieutenant Lylen: The LT is Shae’s favourite superior officer. Shae still struggles in compartmentalizing, so she is a bit too informal to the LT – but he lets her get away with it because she’s such a darn cute little sprout. He’s another of Shae’s many caretakers. He treats her probably more gently than he should.
Marek: Another of Shae’s caretakers, Marek is like a big bro. He rough houses with the little sprout, but teaches her great skills as well. He’s the guy she runs to if she’s been reamed out by all her other caretakers – and he’ll caretake her like she were a tiny wounded kitten.
The Agency’s medical leader, Kieran takes on a lot of responsibility and does so gladly.
Name: Doctor Kieran Fainleaf
38, Human
Female (presents androgynous), she/her, lesbian (Kieran may be genderfluid or gender neutral, she’s not sure – she’s happy how she is right now, so she doesn’t feel the need to press it. Regardless of what she decides, she’d rather use female pronouns because she’s used to using them)
Namely caretaker/emotional whumpee, but very rarely she will turn into a whimper
Entirely dedicated to seeing her patients cared for and safe, the Doc allows herself to show and feel emotion most times. Caring, compassionate, understanding, and self-sacrificing, Kieran is a caretaker through-and-through.
However, in the middle of the chaos of an active med bay or tent, she displays her iron-willed professionalism, complete with cold precision, emotional detachment, and highly analytical and logical mind.
Much of Kieran’s suffering is emotional whump: her berating herself for not saving enough, her feeling guilty for patching up agents just to send them back out into danger, her suffering from PTSD/flashbacks and other mental health issues due to her work, and her tendency to try to hide her suffering makes it worse.
Relationships
Ver: Ver is Kieran’s girlfriend, right-hand medic, and grounding point. She keeps Kieran sane, centered (as much as possible), and out of her head. Ver is Kieran’s primary caretaker, and the only person whose injury could illicit a rage out of the normally docile doctor.
Commander: Kieran and the Commander share a special sort of bond, with both women having a deep, unshakeable understanding of the atrocities of their work. Kieran is the Commander’s only subordinate who can ream her out or whump her. Though the two don’t see eye to eye, they have each other’s backs when push comes to shove.
Lylen: Lylen and Kieran are two peas in a pod. Both primary caretakers with a strong sense of professionalism, they often share a drink in the other’s company. They provide namely emotional support during troubling times. Kieran is most likely to listen to Lylen, second only to the Commander.
So I was thinking about the BTHB I have and I have some concepts for a collection of sci-fi characters.
There's Fem!Whump Cinnamon roll, not sure the name yet. Would be a specialist in some sort of sci-fi tech sorcery and magic or something. Her left arm is fully cybernetic. She has short hair, is small, lean and a female cinnamon roll. (is there a term for that?) Generally tsundere and cynical. She's basically a "switch" in that she can be any of the roles of the whump triangle.
Then there's Rookie, a total whumpee cinnamon roll who is just trying his hardest. He's super nice, very shy and introverted, very cute, and the type to suffer in silence so as to not worry others. And of course this backfires. Everyone loves him. Full-time whumpee.
And finally there's the... Er... Major? I need to find a good ranking system. Some sort of military police, sci-fi thing. Like Ghost in the Shell or Psychopass. She's, like, literally She-Hulk. Very tall, suuuper muscular and thicc. She's Rookie's C. O. and views him as this tiny little puppy to be protected. She goes full berserk if anyone hurts Rookie. She is the caretaker and whumper.
A story I wanna do involves several prompt from BTHB:
All three are in some sort of heated battle grounds
Fem!Cinnamon roll blocks an incoming attack and accidentally diverts it into Rookie.
He goes down, hurt but not in mortal danger.
The big, strong caretaker goes full tiger C. O. and rushes to Rookie.
In a rage, she turns on Fem!Cinnamon roll and slams her against the wall, and we sec how terrified Fem!CR is of the caretaker when she is usually fearless.
Caretaker goes too far and becomes a whumper by branding Fem!CR in a rage while Rookie pleads for her to stop.
EDIT:
Decided on the ranks, so here’s the new descriptions.
Major, Fem!Caretaker/Whumper
A big (6′+) woman who is very well-muscled. Think She-Hulk like build. She is not a small figure. She is a big teddy bear, though. Very caring, compassionate and protective of her subordinates. Especially the Rookie. She goes from protective and panicky stoic caretaker to vengeance-seeking violent whumper quickly, though. She’s the C. O. of the regular Patrol unit.
Sarge, Fem!Whump All-Star. Goes all ways on the Whump Triangle
A small (5′ 2″), lean woman who is a specialist in the Augmented Response Task Force, a sort of combo of Section 9 and Psychopass - her unit is responsible for responding to calls that need the heavy guns and/or a response to heavily augmented or tech-wizard bullshit. Her left arm is entirely cybernetic. She has short hair, a resting bitch face, and snark for days. She’s usually the cynical bastard of the group - often whumped by Major and caretaken by Rookie. Sometimes caretakes for the both of them. Female Cinnamon Roll.
Rookie, Cinnamon Roll Whumpee
A younger man, smallish in frame, desperate and eager to make a good impression on the force. Appropriately cautious, but suffers from a severe case of Critical 1 Rolling irl. He’s a gentle soul who just wants everyone to get along. Often has to play the injured control to the Major’s out of hand protectiveness, and the gentle caretaker for the cynical Sarge. Probably both Major and Sarge have a crush on him.
