another @femslashgelion drawing-- i imagine ritsuko would be hesitant to come out to maya, not knowing what she'll think, or whether maya still wants to be with her or not, but she feels reassured when she finds out that maya is trans too

It's almost funny, in a way. She’d always kinda had it in the back of her mind that Reinhardt was going to outlive her. Just seemed par for the course for ghouls like him. What she’d do when he kicked the bucket isn’t something Asuka had ever given much thought to.
She wonders why she ever would’ve had to think about it. Like she’d have to rehearse mourning.
Whatever she’s feeling now, calling it “mourning” would be a stretch and a half. It’s not what she felt in the wake of finding Mom’s body, not even in the same ballpark. That was mourning. She’s not sure what she’s supposed to call this. No cherished childhood memories spring to mind. Are there any that could? No tearful failure to fathom life without him. Is it really gonna be much different?
Nothing. She feels nothing.
She wonders if it’s okay to feel nothing.
