1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Fenders. Fenhanders. Really any pairing that involves Fenris and Anders because those two hate each other and have never gotten along and never will. They are a hate ship and to make the pairing anything else is not being true to their characters. End of discussion.
Fenrill is also baffling since Fenris becomes more and more of a dick to Merrill as the game goes on and she kind of represents so much of what he can’t stand in mages and elves: naivety, stubbornness, and what he perceives as a “by any means necessary” attitude. While Merrill is a mild person she wouldn’t tolerate being talked down to the way he does for her, straight up character assassinating her when she makes mistakes. Even Red!Hawke doesn’t do that. (I realize that Fenrill isn’t super popular but I’ve seen a surprising amount of stuff for it so why not?)
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion? No. I even follow a blog that reblogs a lot of fenders, and I just added that tag to my blacklist and continued on because they do reblog good content aside from that generally. I don’t unfollow people for their shitty opinions, I only disassociate with someone when they start to hurt other people. Ergo haha, people tend to unfollow and/or block me first. The only way I grow is being exposed to different kinds of ideas, right?
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Solavellan, honestly. It’s everywhere, and I get that, but the more exposed to it I became the more I basically started to realize that no matter the personality of my Lavellan, the fact that so much of her story is shared with every other Lavellan, including the progression of her romance with Solas, really made me disillusioned with it. Shit, after a while that extended to a lot of other player/character ships. Although Hawke is maleable enough to be able to make very different kinds of people in the confines of the narrative, I’ve found that that’s not necessarily the case for many games. Oh well, shipping canon characters is way more fun anyway. ;)
