New Fennekinsy Word

Rotchick {row-TUH-chick}: These things are the devil’s hamsters. They’re roughly the size of a guinea pig, pale brown with white patterns, and venomous. Rotchick are aggressive, typically forming small colonies in the deserts but they have been known to spring up in cities as infestations. Normally folks will call Do’Narr or Fennekinsy to come in and exterminate when this happens.

Sh’p Rotchick {sh-P row-TUH-chick}: a fondly teasing nickname for carriers and children who have a snappish attitude but more, ah, adorable features. If somebody you know or care about is small, grumpy, and absolutely heart stoppingly cute this is what you would typically call them.

Fennekinsy Culture, Language, and Origin (Kinda)

Origin

An quietly spoken bit of knowledge among Galra, meant for behind closed doors or in close standing circles while gossiping, is that of all of them the Fennekinsy are... well, they’re not as far Evolved as the rest of the Empire. As a sub-species they haven’t gone much further from their animal ancestor than being able to speak and be sapient to the point of society & culture, so the rumors go.

Sadly, it’s pretty accurate for a rumor. Fennekinsy are more in tune with their hindbrain and Base Instincts which has resulted in a killing machine that’s only matched by a Legionnaire Assassin. Fennekinsy have radars for ears, sharper eyes & noses than other land based Galra, and weapons on their hands and feet and in their mouths. Serrated, needle-like, snaggle teeth that are meant for stripping bones clean and enough bite force to crack the denser bones of some other Galra sub-species. They can comfortably move/run on all fours just as well as they can on their back paws, but they’re better at hairpin turns on paws.

They are Feral, with a playful and mischievous nature as an entire Sub-Species. It’s just in their genes, y’know? I won’t lie these guys have been known to hunt down other Galra in groups of 12 or more, then commit Cannibalism if they feel like it (punishment just as horrifying as the crime that mobilized a Hunt to begin with I suppose).

Language

Finnic is a bit odd. Guttural, sprinkled with sub-vocal noises and clicks/hissing/whistles, it’s a rougher sounding language that flows smoother than hot glass. Most Fennekinsy have thick accents when they speak Common/Imperial Standard and can’t pronounce some of the words, spitting out or just using the Finnic word out of frustration.

I’ve finally got some translations for you guys too, to give you an idea of what Finnic is like as a larger language:

Kikiree {Ki-Kee-ree}: endearment, roughly translates to “shining glass”. Sand Glass is rare in the Galmora deserts and is a Fennekinsy’s equivalent to a diamond, only meant for jewelry and decorative/holy/ceremonial weapons to act as the blade/sharp part.

Rak NaNa {Rawk Nah-Nah}: roll that R quick but sharp, as a side note. It’s used to refer to older females/male carriers in the community and grandparents that are of the “can get pregnant” variety. It means “Old Long Fang” which is an achievement with the risk taking nature of Fennkinsy as a sub-species. There are Matriarchs who insist on being called this instead of the actual word for Matriarch/Grandmother and wear it like a badge of honor.

Krak N’mai N’mai {CrahK uN-MY uN-MY}: A kind of monster/fairytale meant to frighten children and sometimes adults too. It’s capable of hunting Fennekinsy and Takarta (something that’s supposed to be impossible) for sport and sometimes food. Some stories say that it’s a curse from the Most Ancient Gods to punish people who really deserve that sort of thing. This thing could spook Cthulu y’all.

Civana {See-va- NAH}: also an endearment, typically used for one’s own child. “Soul Star” and “Heart Child” are the two most popular translations but there’s about six meanings that depend on what region the Fennekinsy is from.

Culture

Number one thing about Fennekinsy: Family. They live in units called a Cohort/Cohorts that usually are made up of a Head Matriarch and anywhere from 5 to 12 families directly descended from or related to her. Kits are born in four or six child litters, the smallest litter consisting of twins at the absolute minimum and Single Birth pregnancies being rare. Kits are raised by the whole Cohort to give them the most well rounded upbringing possible and travel in packs until they reach about 10 years old, making trouble or hunting/exploring in the desert.

Fennekinsy are a ranching people, Cohorts who choose not to live inside a city or on the very edges of it live on homesteads with large livestock herds and grow hardy crops the more difficult terrain outside the poles & oasis of Galmora. City dwelling Fennekinsy are trickier and tend to resort to being clever to survive, running bars and restaurants that have pools inside to make the most money since that sort of thing is in high demand everyday at noon. Ranchers have sprawling homesteads with a single underground room for keeping cool under the house. City Fennekinsy have one large receiving room above ground with a staircase that leads down into a larger tunnel system of rooms and kitchen beneath the ground. Both, however, are a bit notorious for building short fences and walking around without any clothes at all in their own territory withing the fence perimeter.

Most of them are leather workers and weapon smiths by trade if they don’t homestead or run a bar/restaurant, others are a dab hand at basket weaving or working a loom. It all has a lot tied into their own religious beliefs and Old Tales, the group being almost as well known for an accurate Oral History of Galmora since the first Galra walked it as the Takarta are and some of the crafts are considered sacred.

You will never see a Fennekinsy that can “father” children get within five feet of a childbearing one without their permission. Childbearing Fennekinsy are a bit famous in the Empire for being territorial of their personal space, if they don’t want you near them and you step close enough there’s a risk of losing a piece of yourself. Tatsuma’s grandmother used to tell stories about fighting off unwanted attention by clawing up faces or biting off fingers. Fennekinsy are raised very independent and capable, as spoiled with physical affection and love as they are, as well as with the knowledge to be cautious and highly respectful/polite when courting anyone of any species.

I'm going to pretend that means that nothing was an issue, not just salary. I'm going to have to go with I'd still love to be a voice actor. But I don't have the talent, nor do I want to move to Texas/New York/California/Canada.

I'd rather create something. Which is frustrating because I don't have the skill to make most things I want xD But it just wouldn't be as satisfying if someone else did it for me.
