Have you seen Ackley Bridge (2017-2022)?
Yes
Partially
No, but I've heard of it
Never heard of it
Does anyone know where I can watch Heart to Heart (2020)? It's a short where David Tennant plays the talking heart of a 21-year-old lesbian and tries to help her get together with her crush. It sounds so cute and I can't find it anywhere 😭😭😭
Fungus the Bogeyman is disgusting. But I watched it for Keeley and Marc so obviously I loved it 😂
Director Lilah Vandenburgh and screenwriter IR Bell-Webb spoke with Solzy at the Movies just before SXSW about Heart to Heart.
You have not lived until you have heard David Tennant, voice acting with a strong Glaswegian accent as the heart of a dying 21 yo lesbian (with heart problems), say “you glorious nurse perving sapphist” Among other delightful phrases....
Seriously, tho, watch Heart to Heart
It’s a potential new UK comedy about a teenage lesbian and it’s really, really good. And you can stream the pilot as part of SeriesFest until June 24th for $12 to unlock it.
Ok, so the premise. A teenager, Liddy (Fern Deacon), wakes up from a heart surgery and hears a mysterious voice telling her that she risks dying a virgin. This turns out to be her literal heart, Lump, played by David Tennant of all people, who immediately starts scheming to get her together with her hot nurse, Kim, played by Sienna Kelly. It’s written by IR Bell-Webb, a queer woman, and directed by Lilah Vandenburgh.
One of the things I appreciate about this pilot is the way in which it uses its premise to talk about the process of unlearning societal misogyny and homophobia. Obviously it doesn’t go too in depth, it’s only a 10 minute pilot after all, but it that short time it effectively shows what it intends to do with the idea of a heart talking and give some hints of how that might develop over the series if it gets picked up. Lump is crass, objectifying, hilarious, and horribly insecure - in other words, a teenager who’s still in the process of figuring out her own sense of self, a process complicated by the fact that she’s gay. The fact that Lump isn’t voiced by teenage girl but by a 49-year-old man serves to highlight the degree to which our own thoughts and internal monologues are influenced by the culture and society we live in. It’s a really smart piece of writing that I would love to see taken further.
So, basically, watch it! Give it ratings on the SeriesFest page! Talk about it! I really, really want someone to pick this up for a full series, since I haven’t been so excited about a concept and eager to see what happens next in a long time.
Again, link is here to watch it for $12 to unlock it. It’s only available until June 24th.
