True dat to both. Still...

It is so refreshing to me to see a story of this magnitude where major points are about reacting to mercy shown you, being willing to change your life for the better, standing up for what you believe in even though the odds are against you, and just plain redemption rather than just getting the girl, or having a happy ending. Almost all the characters who "deserve" happiness are dead by the end of the movie, which is just the way life works sometimes.

The love in the story is real love, most strikingly Éponine's love for Marius even though it's not returned in the way she wants. Bascially Éponine is me. I love her character so much. This scene just kills me: (source)

And Maurius singing about his friends who died while he lived...ugh...all the barricade scenes just made me think about the wars being fought today, and how we might see things differently if we were standing in front of our enemies with nothing but a bayonet. The battle scenes were actually really inspiring and made me kind of think about what real patriotism is, and if we really feel that anymore given the globalized, but even more so individualized, world we live in.

I was not sold on the first 30 minutes of the movie...it got tedious with the drawn-out closeups of characters singing. And I can understand people's complaints about the soundtrack...given the way they put feeling and pauses into the song I imagine it would be a different listening experience than a Broadway track. It really did paint an in-depth portrait of the characters' emotions, but it just got long and the camera angles were jerky and irritating to me.

Nevertheless this was really powerful and a testament to why this story is a classic. I will definitely see it again. And I'm going to give the book another go. There are too many beautiful words and strong emotions to just glaze over this once.

i didn’t watch the match. were they playing well? barça fans always used to boo the players if they were playing badly.

they played ok. a bit shaky at the back at times. unlucky to have conceded the goal early on.they booed when we were passing it in the back. i think they just needed a bit of spark that the 1st team players provide.
